How To Make Baked Camembert In Air Fryer

Making Baked Camembert in an air fryer is a simple and elegant appetizer or snack. Here’s how to do it:

How To Cook Camembert In Air Fryer

Step One: Prepare The Camembert Cheese

  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees F (175°C).
  • Prepare the Camembert: Remove any plastic packaging or wooden box from the cheese wheel and place it in a small oven-safe dish or a Camembert baker if you have one.
  • Score the Cheese: Using a sharp knife, gently score the top of the cheese in a crisscross pattern. This helps the cheese melt evenly.
  • Drizzle with Olive Oil: Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the top of the camembert cheese.  This will add flavor and help create a golden crust.
  • Add Herbs (Optional): Sprinkle fresh herbs like rosemary or fresh thyme over the cheese for added aroma and flavor.

Recipe Variations

Creating variations on the classic Air Fryer Camembert recipe allows you to cater to various tastes and occasions. Here are some delightful twists you can apply to the base recipe to keep it exciting:

  • Herb and Garlic Camembert: Before cooking, top your Camembert with a mixture of finely chopped garlic and fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, and oregano. This variation adds a fragrant and savory depth to the cheese.
  • Honey and Walnut Camembert: After air frying, drizzle honey over the Camembert and sprinkle with crushed walnuts. The sweetness of the honey pairs perfectly with the nuttiness of the walnuts, offering a delightful contrast to the creamy cheese.
  • Cranberry and Pecan Camembert: Top the cheese with a spoonful of cranberry sauce and a handful of chopped pecans before cooking. This combination brings a sweet and tart flavor with a crunchy texture, making it a perfect choice for holiday gatherings.
  • Spicy Camembert: Add some heat by topping the Camembert with a mix of chopped jalapeños or a sprinkle of chili flakes before air frying. This version is great for those who enjoy a spicy kick with creamy cheese.
  • Truffle Honey Camembert: Elevate your Camembert with a drizzle of truffle honey or maple syrup for a luxurious twist. The unique flavor of the truffle combined with the sweetness of honey makes for an exquisite taste experience.
  • Balsamic and Fig Camembert: After cooking, top the Camembert with a drizzle of balsamic reduction and some sliced fresh figs. The balsamic acidity and the figs’ sweetness complement the creamy cheese beautifully.
  • Mediterranean Camembert: Before air frying, top your cheese with chopped sun-dried tomatoes, olives, red pepper flakes, and a sprinkle of za’atar. This variation adds a Mediterranean flair to the dish, perfect for a themed dinner party.
  • Bacon-Wrapped Camembert: For a truly indulgent variation, wrap the Camembert in bacon strips before air frying. The bacon adds a smoky flavor and a crispy texture that contrasts wonderfully with the soft and creamy cheese.

Each variation can be served with bread, crackers, or sliced fresh fruit for dipping, making your Air Fryer Camembert a versatile and always-appetizing appetizer or snack.

Pro Tips

Professional tips can elevate your dish from good to extraordinary when preparing Camembert in an air fryer. Here are some pro tips to ensure your Air Fryer Camembert turns out perfectly every time:

  • Score the Cheese: Before cooking, lightly score the top of the Camembert in a crosshatch pattern. This helps the cheese absorb any added flavors from toppings like garlic or herbs and makes it easier for the cheese to expand and become gooey without bursting.
  • Use Parchment Paper: Place a piece of parchment paper under the Camembert in the air fryer basket. This prevents the cheese from sticking to the basket and makes cleanup easier. Ensure the parchment paper is cut to size to avoid blocking airflow.
  • Preheat Your Air Fryer: For the best results, preheat your air fryer for a few minutes before adding the cheese. A preheated air fryer ensures even cooking and helps achieve that desirable gooey center with a slightly crisp top.
  • Keep the Rind On The rind of Camembert is edible and helps contain the cheese as it melts, creating a natural ‘bowl’ for the gooey cheese. Just make sure to score the top to allow heat to penetrate.
  • Don’t Overcook: Keep a close eye on the cooking time. Overcooking Camembert can lead to the cheese becoming too runny or even separating. Aim for that sweet spot where the cheese is melted and gooey inside.
  • Add Toppings at the Right Time: If you’re adding ingredients that could overcook or burn (like nuts or delicate herbs), consider adding them halfway through cooking or after removing the cheese from the air fryer.
  • Let It Rest: Allow the Camembert to rest for a minute or two after cooking. This helps stabilize the cheese, making it easier to transfer to a serving plate without spilling the melted interior.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Don’t be afraid to try different toppings and flavor combinations. Honey, nuts, spices, and fresh herbs can all add exciting dimensions to your dish.
  • Pairings Matter: Think about what you’ll serve with your Camembert. Crusty bread, apple slices, and pear are classic pairings, but also consider less traditional options like sweet potato chips or vegetable crudités for dipping.
  • Monitor Air Fryer Performance: All air fryers are a bit different. If this is your first time making Camembert in your air fryer, start with the lower end of the recommended cooking time and adjust based on how your appliance cooks.

By following these professional tips, you’ll be well on your way to serving a perfectly cooked Air Fryer Camembert that will impress your guests or make your snack time a bit more luxurious.

Air Fryer Baked Camembert

Can I cook Camembert in its wooden box in the air fryer?
It’s generally not recommended to put the wooden box in the air fryer due to the fire risk. Instead, place the cheese directly in the air fryer on parchment paper or in a small, air-fryer-safe dish.

How do I know when the Camembert is done?
The Camembert is done when it’s visibly softened, and the top is slightly golden. The cooking time can vary depending on the size of the cheese and your air fryer model, usually around 10-15 minutes.

Can I air fry Camembert without toppings?
Absolutely! Air frying Camembert without toppings allows you to enjoy the pure, creamy flavor of the cheese. You can always add toppings after cooking if desired.

What if my Camembert bursts during cooking?
Bursting can happen if the cheese is overcooked. To prevent this, keep a close eye on the cooking time and consider lowering the temperature if the cheese starts to crack open.

How do I store leftover Air Fryer Camembert?
Leftover Camembert should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container and is best enjoyed within 2-3 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or oven to restore some gooey texture.

Can I use any type of Camembert cheese?
Yes, any quality Camembert cheese will work for this recipe. However, the size of the cheese may affect the cooking time, so adjust accordingly.
