Easy Air Fryer Loaded Cabbage Steaks Recipe Tips

  • Slice the cabbage into thick, even steaks so they cook through without falling apart.
  • Pat the cabbage dry before seasoning to help those edges get crispy instead of steamed.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket; give each steak space or cook in batches.
  • Flip halfway through cooking so both sides get golden and lightly charred.
  • Add cheese near the end so it melts without burning.
  • Use pre-cooked bacon to keep things quick and mess-free.
  • Finish with green onions or chives for a fresh bite that cuts through the richness.

Storing Instructions

Let the cabbage steaks cool completely before storing so they don’t turn soggy. Transfer leftovers to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. For best texture, store toppings like bacon and cheese separately if possible and add them fresh when reheating.

Easy Air Fryer Loaded Cabbage Steaks Recipe Faqs

Can I make loaded cabbage steaks without bacon? Yes. Skip the bacon or swap it with sautéed mushrooms, turkey bacon, or plant-based bacon for a vegetarian option.

Do I need to parboil the cabbage first? No. The air fryer cooks the cabbage until tender inside with crispy edges, no pre-boiling needed.

What type of cabbage works best? Green cabbage is ideal because it holds together well and gets nicely caramelized in the air fryer.

Can I use different cheeses? Absolutely. Cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a cheese blend all melt well and taste great.

How do I keep cabbage steaks from falling apart? Cut thick slices and leave the core intact so each steak holds together during cooking.

Are these cabbage steaks keto or low carb? Yes. They’re naturally low carb and keto-friendly, especially when topped with cheese and bacon.

Can I make them ahead of time? You can slice and season the cabbage in advance, then air fry and add toppings right before serving.

What should I serve with loaded cabbage steaks? They pair well with grilled chicken, steak, pork chops, or can be served as a stand-alone low-carb meal.
