Remember the step-by-step directions and detailed ingredients are below in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, as well as the nutritional information.
- Shrimp: Use large shrimp (peeled and deveined, tail-on or tail-off, based on your preference). Fresh or frozen and thawed shrimp can be used.
- Olive Oil: This will ensure the shrimp don’t stick to the skewers and helps the seasonings adhere.
- Garlic: Cloves of minced garlic to give a flavorful touch.
- Lemon Juice: Add a tangy flavor that pairs well with the shrimp.
- Seasoning: Use paprika, dried oregano, and dried thyme for a flavorful spice mix. You can adjust these based on your personal preference.
- Salt and Pepper: To taste. Be careful with the salt, as shrimp naturally have a slightly salty flavor.
- Wooden or Metal Skewers: If you’re using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 20 minutes before use to prevent them from burning in the air fryer.
- Optional Garnishes: Freshly chopped parsley, lemon wedges, or a drizzle of melted butter can be used for serving.

Pro Tips For Cooking Grilled Shrimp Skewers In Air Fryer
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheating your air fryer can help achieve a more even cooker and better texture for the shrimp. It usually takes about 3-5 minutes to preheat.
- Use Large Shrimp: Larger shrimp are less likely to overcook and are easier to skewer. Plus, they offer a satisfying bite when cooked.
- Don’t Overcrowd: Leave enough space between each skewer to allow the air to circulate properly. This ensures all sides of the shrimp get cooked evenly and crisply.
- Use Quality Ingredients: Fresh shrimp will yield the best result, but if you’re using frozen, thoroughly defrost and pat them dry before marinating.
- Marinate: Marinating the shrimp in spices, oil, and lemon juice not only adds flavor but also helps to keep them juicy during the cooking process. A good 15-20 minutes of marinating can make a noticeable difference, but don’t marinate for too long, as the acid in the marinade can start to cook the shrimp.
- Watch the Cooking Time: Shrimp cook quickly; overcooked shrimp can become rubbery. Start checking for doneness around the 5-minute mark. Shrimp are done when they turn pink and opaque.
- Rotate Skewers: Rotate or flip the skewers halfway through the cooking process for even cooking on all sides of the shrimp.
- Rest the Shrimp: Allow the shrimp to rest for a few minutes after cooking. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the shrimp, resulting in a more flavorful bite.
- Garnish Right Before Serving: If you’re using a garnish like fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon, add this right before serving for the freshest taste and presentation.
Is Air Fried Shrimp Skewers Healthy?

Shrimp is not only healthy. It has many Proteins, Selenium, Vitamin B12, Iron, Phosphorus, Niacin, Zinc, and Magnesium.
How to Make Grilled Shrimp in an Air Fryer
This is one of the best and easiest ways to make Air Fryer Shrimp. The key is really in the oil, which helps it crisp up, and a few seasonings give it a lot of flavors.
Add Old Bay Seasoning, Paprika, or Cayenne Pepper if you want a spicer shrimp dish.
How Long to Cook Grilled Shrimp in an Air Fryer
I cooked this shrimp skewer for about 5 to 7 minutes; the key is to cook the shrimp until it has an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.
What Temperature to Cook Grilled Shrimp in an Air Fryer
I cooked the shrimp at 350 degrees F. The key is preheating your air fryer, so as soon as the shrimp hits the basket, it sears the outside.
Cooking it at a low temperature makes the outside and inside tender and delicious.
Can You Stack Grilled Shrimp in the Air Fryer?
For best results, I suggest placing the shrimp into a single layer. Otherwise, if they’re stacked, they will not cook properly.
Can You Make Shrimp Kebabs in Advance? Can You Put Frozen Shrimp in the Air Fryer?
It would be fine if you would like to make these in advance and freeze them. I would not recommend adding vegetables to the kebab and then freezing them.
Leave out the vegetables if you are going to freeze them. You could also do a fresh batch of vegetable kebabs to serve alongside the shrimp kebabs.
Vegetable To Add To Shrimp Kebabs
- Mushrooms
- Tomatoes
- Onions
- Red Onions
- Eggplant
