There’s a moment at every party when someone asks what’s in the oven, and the honest answer is “nothing, because I needed the oven for the actual food.” That’s the problem hot dips create. They’re the first thing to disappear off a table and the last thing you want competing for rack space.

The air fryer solves it. A small ramekin or cake pan slides right into the basket, the concentrated heat blisters the cheese on top in a way a conventional oven takes twice as long to manage, and your kitchen stays cool. Most of these are done in 8 to 15 minutes.

Why the air fryer beats the oven for dips

Three things make it work:

  1. Speed. No lengthy preheat. Most dips go from mixing bowl to bubbling in about 10 minutes.
  2. That top layer. The circulating heat sits close to the surface, so you get browned, slightly crisp cheese over a creamy center — the textural contrast that makes a baked dip worth the effort.
  3. Scale. A dip for four people in a full-size oven is a waste of energy. In an air fryer it’s exactly right.

The one rule: use an air fryer-safe dish with sides. Ramekins, small cake pans, and mini cast iron skillets all work. Never pour dip straight into the basket.

Twenty minutes, no spinach, and a smart technique: blend half the artichokes for a silky base and chop the rest so every bite has texture. Make-ahead friendly, which matters when you’re hosting.

Air Fryer French Onion Dip

Air Fryer French Onion Dip

Real caramelized onions under a cream cheese and Parmesan layer. Worth noting: a deeper dish keeps it gooey longer, a shallow one gives you more crispy edges. Pick based on how fast your crowd eats.

Air Fryer Queso

If it turns lumpy, a splash of milk or broth and a good whisk brings it back. Transfer it to a slow cooker on warm if you’re serving over a long stretch.

The crowd-pleasers

Air Fryer Mississippi Sin Dip

Cream cheese, cheddar, bacon, green onions, and jalapeños if you want them. Ten to fifteen minutes at 350°F. This is the one people ask you to bring again.

Air Fryer Pizza Dip

Tastes genuinely like pizza, comes together in about 15 minutes, and takes any topping you’d put on a slice. Portion it into individual ramekins if you want to skip the double-dipping conversation.

Air Fryer Crab Dip

Hot Crab Dip Recipe

Lump crab, melty cheese, under 20 minutes start to finish. One caution: powerful air fryers can scorch the top, so check it early.

Air Fryer Elote Dip

Five minutes of prep, then 5 to 8 minutes at 330°F. Save some Cotija and fresh cilantro to scatter on right before it hits the table.

The lighter one and the dessert

Air Fryer Cottage Cheese Dip

Air Fryer Cottage Cheese Dip

Cottage cheese, sour cream, chives, and seasoning, warmed 8 to 10 minutes until the top just turns golden. High protein, and it doesn’t taste like a compromise.

Air Fryer S’mores Dip

Three ingredients, five minutes. Semi-sweet chocolate chips keep it from going too sweet against the marshmallow. One small pan feeds a surprising number of people.

What to serve alongside

Tortilla chips and crackers are obvious. Better: air fry a batch of pita or lavash while the dip cooks, or put out celery and bell pepper strips for the people who want a break from carbs. For pasta-adjacent dips, breadsticks. And if you want a second sauce on the table, Alfredo Dipping Sauce comes together on the stovetop while the air fryer is busy.

A few things worth knowing

  • Soften your cream cheese first. Cold cream cheese leaves lumps that never fully smooth out, no matter how long it cooks.
  • Grease the dish. Baked-on cheese is a genuinely unpleasant cleanup.
  • Check at the halfway point. Air fryers vary a lot in power, and the difference between golden and burnt is about 90 seconds.
  • Don’t overfill. Three-quarters full leaves room for bubbling without overflow into the basket.
  • Most of these keep three days refrigerated. Reheat in the microwave in 30-second bursts, or back in the air fryer at a low temperature. Skip freezing anything dairy-heavy — the texture doesn’t survive it.
