Ingredients Needed

Air Fryer Sausage McGriddle ingredients needed on kitchen table.
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: Acts as the gooey, stretchy base of the dough, providing moisture and binding the other ingredients together.
  • Almond Flour: Offers a low-carb alternative to traditional flour, giving the dough structure while keeping it keto-friendly.
  • Egg: Works as a binding agent, helping to combine the almond flour and cheeses into a cohesive dough that’s ready for baking
  • Sausage Patties: The star of the sandwich, choose your preferred sausage patties, be it pork for its classic flavor, turkey for a lighter option, or a plant-based patty for a vegetarian version.
  • Scrambled or Fried Eggs: Adding an egg to your McGriddle introduces a creamy texture and boosts the protein content, making for a more filling breakfast sandwich.
  • Cooked Bacon: You can use regular bacon or turkey bacon for added protein.
  • Sugar-Free Maple Syrup: Optional; you can also use melted butter.

How To Make A McGriddle

Preparing the dough for the McGriddle sandwich.

Step One: Microwave the mozzarella and cream cheese together in a medium bowl. Microwave for one minute, stir, and then microwave for another 30 seconds. The Cheese should be well combined. Add almond flour to the cheese mixture.

Making the dough for the biscuits to hold the McGriddle together.

Step Two: Also, add the egg, but be sure that the cheese mixture is not very hot but still workable, so you do not cook the egg. Stir the ingredients all together and knead if necessary to incorporate the ingredients.

Mixing the dough and rolling out the dough for the biscuits.

Step Three: Press dough into a flat rectangle between two pieces of parchment paper. With a biscuit cutter or a cup– cut out the circles for your McGriddle’s bread. Spray your ‘bread’ with cooking spray and air fry at 400 degrees F for 7 minutes, flip, and then air fry for seven more minutes. The ‘bread’ is done when it is browned and crispy.

Drizzling the sandwich with maple syrup.

Step Four: Spread some sugar-free maple syrup on top of the copycat McGriddle’s bread. Assemble your copycat McGriddle with sausage, egg, cheese, and bacon.

Copycat Sausage McGriddle Recipe Variations

  • Eggs: This breakfast sandwich can use scrambled or fried eggs. Another great option is over-easy eggs.
  • Cheese: Add a slice of American or Cheddar Cheese on top, then return to the air fryer or microwave and heat until melted.
  • Breakfast Meat: Use your favorite breakfast meats, sausage, bacon, or Canadian Bacon.

Storing

If you want to make a batch of the keto and low-carb bread ahead of time, be ready for the weekend, or when the urge strikes you to eat your keto McGriddle, you can easily store these or even freeze them.

Let the bread cool to room temperature, place it in an airtight container, and set it in the refrigerator. It will last for 2 to 3 days. Any longer than that, you should wrap it in parchment paper and freeze it. It will stay well in the freezer for 2 to 3 months.

Reheating

These make great sandwiches that you can reheat throughout the week. I love to make a batch on Sunday and then have them throughout the week. Meal planning is a great way to stick to our diet program.

To reheat the McGriddle, add them to the air fryer basket and set the temperature to 350 degrees F; air fry sitting for 3 to 5 minutes or until warmed.
