This Ninja Creami chocolate milkshake is thick enough to need a spoon, tastes like the shakes from an old-school diner, and takes three ingredients you probably already have: chocolate ice cream, cold milk and chocolate syrup. There’s no 24-hour freeze. Scoop, pour, press Milkshake, and you’re drinking it in about five minutes.

This is my go-to when someone wants a milkshake right now and I don’t want to haul out the blender. The Creami’s paddle works the ice cream and milk together without melting it down, so you get that dense, slow-to-the-straw texture a blender rarely manages.

Have a Ninja Slushi instead? The Slushi makes milkshakes from a liquid base and churns them cold, which is a completely different method. Use my Ninja Slushi chocolate milkshake recipe, which is built for that machine’s sugar and fill-line requirements.

Why This Chocolate Milkshake Works in the Ninja Creami

  • No overnight wait. Ice cream is already frozen, so you skip the 24-hour pint freeze most Creami recipes need.
  • Thicker than a blender shake. The Creami’s paddle drills down through the pint instead of whirling everything into liquid, so the shake stays cold and spoonable.
  • Three ingredients. Chocolate ice cream, whole milk and chocolate syrup. Toppings are optional.
  • Easy to change up. Swap the ice cream flavor, add a mix-in, or stir in malt powder and you have a different shake from the same method.

Ingredients for a Ninja Creami Chocolate Milkshake

The exact amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

Chocolate ice cream, whole milk and chocolate syrup laid out for a Ninja Creami milkshake
  • Chocolate ice cream: The flavor of the shake is only as good as the ice cream, so use a full-fat brand you’d happily eat from the carton. Light ice cream works but comes out thinner. If you want to make your own base, my Ninja Creami Bluebell Dutch Chocolate is rich and deeply cocoa-forward, and it makes an outstanding shake.
  • Whole milk: Fat equals thickness. Two percent works if that’s what’s in the fridge; add it a tablespoon at a time so the shake doesn’t thin out. Unsweetened oat or almond milk are fine for dairy-free shakes.
  • Chocolate syrup: Adds a second layer of chocolate and helps the shake taste like a soda fountain version rather than melted ice cream.
  • Toppings (optional): Whipped cream and chocolate shavings are my standard. Crushed cookies, a drizzle of syrup or a cherry on top are all fair game.

How to Make a Chocolate Milkshake in the Ninja Creami

Pouring cold milk and chocolate syrup over ice cream in a Ninja Creami pint below the max fill line

Step 1: Scoop the chocolate ice cream into an empty Ninja Creami pint container. Press it down lightly with the back of the spoon to fill any big air pockets.

Step 2: Pour the cold milk and chocolate syrup over the ice cream. Keep everything below the MAX FILL line on the pint.

Place the pint in the outer bowl, attach the lid with the paddle, and twist to lock the bowl onto the motor base.

Step 3: Place the pint in the outer bowl, attach the lid with the paddle, and twist to lock the bowl onto the motor base.

Step 4: Press the Milkshake button and let the program run until it stops on its own.

Step 5: Check the texture. If it’s too thick to pour, add 1 tablespoon of milk and run Milkshake again. If it’s too thin, add a scoop of ice cream and re-run.

Step 6: Pour into chilled glasses, top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, and serve right away.

Chocolate Milkshake Ninja Creami Tips

  • Chill your glasses. Ten minutes in the freezer keeps the shake thick to the last sip.
  • Start with less milk. You can always add more; you can’t take it out.
  • Don’t overfill. A standard Creami pint holds 16 oz. If you have the Creami Deluxe, its 24 oz pint can take a bigger batch.
  • Mix-ins go in a well. For crushed cookies or chocolate chips, make a small well in the center of the ice cream before you add the milk, drop the mix-ins in, then run Milkshake.

Flavor Variations

Ninja Creami vs. Ninja Slushi Chocolate Milkshake

Both machines have a Milkshake setting, but they work in opposite directions. The Creami starts with something already frozen (ice cream or a frozen pint) and shaves it into a shake in minutes. The Slushi starts with a cold liquid base and freezes it while it churns, which takes longer but holds the shake at serving temperature for a crowd. If you own a Slushi, follow the Ninja Slushi chocolate milkshake recipe; ice cream and milk alone won’t behave the same way in it.

FAQs

Can I make this without store-bought ice cream? Yes. Make a chocolate pint the day before, let it freeze for 24 hours, run it on Ice Cream, then add milk and syrup and run Milkshake.

Can I make a lighter or higher-protein version? Yes. Use a pint of my Ninja Creami chocolate protein ice cream as the base and Fairlife milk. You’ll get a thinner but still creamy shake with far less sugar.

Why is my Ninja Creami milkshake too thin? Too much milk, or ice cream that sat out and softened. Add a scoop of ice cream and re-run Milkshake.

Can I store leftovers? You can freeze leftover shake in the pint with the lid on for up to 2 weeks. Let it sit out for 5–10 minutes, add a splash of milk and run Milkshake again. It’s best fresh, though.

Does it work in the Creami Deluxe? Yes. The Deluxe has the same Milkshake program and a larger 24 oz pint, so you can make a bigger batch at once.
