If you love a great sandwich, this is one of my favorites. It’s a great and easy dinner or lunch made with flank steak. It’s also one of my go-to meals since both children love them. And with the Instant Pot, there is hardly any clean-up, so this makes for a great and easy midweek meal.
I live in Philly, the Cheesesteak Capital of the World, or the United States. We have a local rivalry between Genos and Pats across the street from South Philadelphia. So, I know a great cheesesteak. This dish is the perfect blend of meat, peppers, and cheese, and it has the sweetness of the King Hawaiian Bread Roll for a perfect bite!

Philly Cheesesteak Sliders Recipe Tips
- Select the Right Cut of Beef: Use ribeye or flank steak for the best flavor and tenderness. Freeze the beef for about 30 minutes before slicing to make it easier to cut thin slices.
- Deglaze the Pot: After sautéing the onions, peppers, and mushrooms, use a bit of beef broth to deglaze the bottom of the Instant Pot.
- Layer Wisely: When adding the ingredients to the Instant Pot, start with the beef at the bottom, add your seasonings, and top with vegetables.
- Thin Slices are Key: Thinly slicing your beef ensures that it cooks quickly and evenly, absorbing all the flavors from the broth and seasonings.
- Use High-Quality Cheese: Provolone cheese melts better, adding a creamier, richer taste to your sliders.
- Toasting the Buns: Lightly toast the slider buns before assembling to add a bit of crunch and prevent them from becoming soggy from the beef and cheese.
- Balance the Flavors: While the beef and cheese are the stars, don’t skimp on the vegetables.
- Manual Release for Meat: Once the Instant Pot cycle is complete, use a quick release to prevent the beef from overcooking.
- Customize Your Toppings: Feel free to customize your sliders with additional toppings like mushrooms, jalapeños, or even a spread of garlic mayo on the buns for extra flavor.
- Serve Immediately: For the best taste and texture, serve the sliders as soon as assembled. The warm, melty cheese and tender beef are best enjoyed fresh.
Philly Cheesesteak Sliders Recipe Faqs
Can I use a different type of meat? Yes. While thinly sliced beef is traditional, you can also use chicken or a plant-based meat alternative.
What if I don’t have Provolone cheese? That’s no problem. You can substitute Swiss, American, or Mozzarella cheese.
Can I make this recipe without an Instant Pot? Yes! You can use a slow cooker or sauté the ingredients in a skillet on the stove.
How do I prevent my slider buns from getting soggy? Toast the buns. Lightly toasting the inside of the buns before assembling the sliders can help prevent them from getting soggy from the meat and cheese.
Is it necessary to sauté the vegetables before pressure cooking? Sautéing the vegetables beforehand helps to release their flavors and soften them slightly, but if you’re short on time, you can add them directly to the pot with the meat.
Can I make these sliders ahead of time? You can prepare the meat and vegetable filling ahead of time and reheat it when ready to serve.
How do I store leftovers? Refrigerate in an airtight container. The beef and vegetable mixture can be stored for up to 3 days.
Can I freeze the cheesesteak filling? The cooked cheesesteak filling can be frozen in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat before serving.
How do I slice beef thinly? Freeze slightly. Partially freezing the beef for about 30 minutes makes it easier to slice thinly with a sharp knife or Mandoline Slicer.
Can I double the recipe in the Instant Pot? Be cautious. You can double the recipe as long as you don’t exceed the Instant Pot’s maximum fill line.
