Ingredients and Substitutions

Ingredients needed for Easy Mango Salad Dressing Recipe on kitchen table.
  • Fresh Mango: Ripe mango gives the dressing natural sweetness and a smooth texture. Frozen mango works too—just thaw it first.
  • Olive Oil: Adds richness and helps everything blend smoothly. Avocado oil is a great swap with a similar mild flavor.
  • Lime Juice: Brightens the dressing and balances the sweetness. Lemon juice can be used if that’s what you have.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup: Enhances the mango’s natural sweetness. Use agave or skip it if your mango is very ripe.
  • Salt: Brings all the flavors together. Start small and adjust to taste.
  • Optional Add-Ins: A pinch of chili flakes for heat, ginger for warmth, or garlic for a savory twist.

Variations

  • Spicy Mango Dressing: Add a pinch of cayenne, chili flakes, or a small piece of jalapeño for heat.
  • Creamy Mango Dressing: Blend in Greek yogurt or mayo for a thicker, creamy texture.
  • Mango Ginger Dressing: Add fresh grated ginger for a warm, zesty kick.
  • Mango Lime Cilantro Dressing: Toss in fresh cilantro for a bright, herby flavor.
  • Asian-Inspired Mango Dressing: Add a splash of soy sauce or coconut aminos for a savory twist.

Easy Mango Salad Dressing Recipe Tips

  • Use Ripe Mangoes: The riper the mango, the sweeter and more flavorful the dressing.
  • Adjust Consistency: Add a little water or more olive oil if you prefer a thinner dressing.
  • Balance Flavors: Taste before serving—add extra lime juice for tang or honey/maple for sweetness.
  • Blend Thoroughly: Make sure to scrape down the sides so the dressing is smooth and creamy.
  • Optional Extras: A pinch of chili flakes or fresh ginger adds a fun, zesty twist.

Storing Instructions

  • Refrigeration: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Shake Before Using: Separation may occur; shake or stir well before serving.
  • Freezing: Not recommended as the texture can change once thawed.

What Kind Of Mangos To Use

  • Varieties: Ataulfo (also called Honey or Champagne), Haden, or Tommy Atkins are all great. Ataulfo is extra sweet and creamy, making it ideal for smooth dressings.
  • Ripeness: Look for mangoes that are slightly soft to the touch, fragrant, and free of dark spots or wrinkles. Overripe mangoes can be overly mushy, while under-ripe ones may be tart and firm.
  • Tip: If using frozen mango, make sure it’s fully thawed before blending for the smoothest consistency.

How To Cut A Mango

  • Wash the Mango: Rinse the mango under running water and pat it dry.
  • Slice Off the Sides: Stand the mango upright. Using a sharp knife, slice about ¼ inch from the center on each side, avoiding the large, flat pit in the middle. You’ll have two “cheeks” and the middle piece with the pit.
  • Score the Flesh: Take one cheek and use a knife to make lengthwise and crosswise cuts into the flesh, creating a grid pattern—but don’t cut through the skin.
  • Scoop or Flip: Turn the mango cheek inside out by pushing the skin side up, then use a spoon to scoop out the cubes. Repeat with the other cheek.
  • Trim Around the Pit: Carefully cut off any remaining mango flesh around the seed and cube it.
