What Are Seven Layer Brownies?

Seven Layer Brownies, also known as Magic Bars or Hello Dolly Bars, are a decadent and indulgent dessert made with seven layers of deliciousness. The traditional layers typically include:

  • Graham Cracker Crust: A base made from crushed graham crackers mixed with melted butter, providing a sweet and crunchy foundation for the layers above.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: Drizzled over the graham cracker crust, sweetened condensed milk adds richness and acts as a binder for the other layers.
  • Chocolate Chips: Sprinkled generously over the condensed milk layer, chocolate chips melt and create a gooey, chocolatey layer.
  • Butterscotch Chips: Similar to chocolate chips, butterscotch chips add a sweet and buttery flavor to the bars, complementing the chocolate.
  • Shredded Coconut: Sweetened shredded coconut is sprinkled over the chocolate and butterscotch chips, adding a chewy texture and tropical flavor.
  • Chopped Nuts: Typically, chopped nuts such as pecans or walnuts are added for crunch and nutty flavor, though this layer is optional for those with nut allergies.
  • Additional Toppings: Some variations may include additional toppings like caramel sauce, peanut butter chips, or even marshmallows, adding extra layers of flavor and texture.

After assembling the layers, the bars are baked until golden and bubbly, allowing the flavors to meld together into a rich and satisfying treat. Seven Layer Brownies are often sliced into squares or bars once cooled, making them perfect for sharing at parties, potlucks, or as a special dessert for any occasion.
