An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that can be used as an efficient way of cooking. It’s essentially mini convection ovens on your countertop, which use hot air circulated around food for crispiness and ease of eating without messes from oil spills or other fats commonly found in deep fat frying process equipment.

Harnessing the efficient heat circulation of the air fryer, these roasted almonds offer a wonderful crunch with every bite. Their toasted aroma and golden hue make them an irresistible snack or a crunchy addition to salads and dishes.

Pro Tips For Roasting Air Fryer Almonds

  • Uniform Size: Ensure your almonds are of similar size for even roasting. If there’s a mix of large and small, the smaller ones could burn before the larger ones are done.
  • Dry Almonds: If you’ve washed or soaked your almonds, ensure they’re thoroughly dried before roasting to prevent steaming and achieve optimal crispiness.
  • Shake Regularly: Shaking the basket or stir almonds every few minutes ensures even roasting and prevents almonds from sticking together.
  • Oil Moderation: A drizzle of oil is sufficient. Too much can make the almonds greasy.
  • Parchment Paper: To cover the air fryer basket holes, use a parchment sheet liner or aluminum foil.
  • Taste Test: As you approach the end of roasting time, taste an almond to check for desired crispness and flavor. Remember, they’ll continue to harden slightly as they cool.
  • Cool Completely: Let the almonds cool completely before storing. This ensures they remain crispy and don’t become soft from steam.
  • Customize: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different seasonings; some great options are sea salt, brown sugar, chili powder, cayenne pepper, or even garlic powder- from spicy to sweet, the possibilities are endless!

Remember, every air fryer can differ slightly in performance, so the first time you roast, keep a close watch to determine the optimal time for your specific device.

Air Fryer Roasted Almonds

Can I roast other nuts in the air fryer using this method? You can use this method for any type of nut, like cashews, walnuts, and pecans. However, cooking times might vary slightly based on the size and density of the nut.

Do I need to soak the almonds before roasting? No, you don’t need to soak the almonds before roasting. In fact, if you do soak them, ensure they are thoroughly dried to achieve a crispy texture when roasted.

Why are my roasted almonds chewy or soft? Almonds might turn out chewy or soft if not roasted long enough or if there was too much moisture (either from washing or excessive oil). Ensure they’re dry before roasting, and adjust the cooking time if needed.

Can I roast salted almonds? Yes, you can roast salted almonds. However, be cautious when adding salt or salty seasonings to avoid over-salting.

How long can I store the roasted almonds? Properly roasted and cooled almonds, stored after cooled to room temperature in an airtight container or mason jar, can last up to a month. Ensure they’re completely cooled before storing to prevent any moisture build-up.

Can I add sweet flavors to the almonds, like cinnamon and sugar? Absolutely! You can customize the flavoring to your liking. Sweet flavors like cinnamon, sugar, or even cocoa can be a delightful variation.

Is there a need to preheat the air fryer? While some models don’t require preheating, doing so can lead to more consistent results and even roasting from the start.

Storage, Reheating, and Freezing Instructions for Air Fryer Roasted Almonds

Storage:
  • Room Temperature: Once the roasted almonds have completely cooled, transfer them to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. They will retain their crunch and flavor for up to a month.
Reheating:
  • While there’s typically no need to reheat roasted almonds, if you find they’ve lost some of their crunch over time, you can pop them back in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2-3 minutes to refresh their crispness.
Freezing:
  • While freezing isn’t typically necessary for roasted almonds due to their long shelf life at room temperature, if you choose to do so:
    • Place cooled almonds in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid.
    • Transfer the frozen almonds to a freezer-safe bag or container. Label with the date and contents.
    • Store in the freezer for up to 6 months. To use, simply remove the desired amount and allow them to come to room temperature.
Note: Always ensure that the almonds are completely cooled before storing in any container. This prevents any residual heat from producing steam, which can affect the almonds’ texture and lead to them becoming soft or moldy
