How To Make Air Fryer Pizza Cannoli

Puff pastry sheet cut into eight equal squares on a flat surface.

Step One: Start by cutting the puff pastry into eight evenly sized squares.

Mozzarella cheese cut into small cubes on a cutting board.

Step Two: Cut the mozzarella into 1–2 inch cubes or bite-sized pieces.

Step Three: Rotate the puff pastry square so it looks like a diamond, then spoon 1–2 tablespoons of chunky tomato sauce into the center. Top with a few pieces of mozzarella and finish with fresh basil leaves.

Step Four: Bring each corner of the puff pastry toward the center, keeping the top and bottom edges open.

Step Six: Shake off any extra egg wash, then roll the pizza cannoli in panko crumbs until fully coated. Spray generously with olive oil and air fry at 400°F for 5–6 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

Easy Air Fryer Pizza Cannoli Recipe Tips

  • Choose Fresh Ingredients: Use fresh mozzarella and basil for the best flavor and texture. Pre-shredded cheese can work, but it melts differently and may release more moisture.
  • Keep Puff Pastry Cold: Cold pastry is easier to handle and holds its shape better when folding and air frying.
  • Even Egg Wash Coating: Brush the egg wash over all exposed edges so the panko sticks and the cannoli browns evenly.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Air Fryer: Give each cannoli space to circulate hot air. Crowding can make them soggy instead of crispy.
  • Watch the Cooking Time: Air fryers vary, so check at 5 minutes to avoid burning. Golden brown and crispy is the goal.
  • Get Creative with Fillings: Swap tomato sauce for pesto, add pepperoni, or use a mix of cheeses for flavor variations.
  • Serve Immediately: These are best eaten fresh while the crust is crispy and the cheese is melty.

Storing Instructions

  • Short-Term Storage: Let the pizza cannoli cool completely, then place them in an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2–3 days.
  • Reheating Tips: To keep them crispy, reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes instead of the microwave. This restores the golden, crunchy exterior without making them soggy.
  • Freezing Option: You can freeze uncooked, folded cannoli (before air frying) in a single layer on a parchment-lined tray. Once frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe bag for up to 1 month. Cook directly from frozen, adding a minute or two to the air frying time.

Easy Air Fryer Pizza Cannoli Recipe Faqs

Can I make these ahead of time? Yes! You can prep the folded cannoli and store them in the fridge for a few hours before air frying. For longer storage, freeze uncooked cannoli for up to a month and cook from frozen.

Can I use pre-shredded cheese instead of fresh mozzarella? You can, but fresh mozzarella melts best and gives a creamier texture. Pre-shredded cheese may release extra moisture, making the cannoli slightly soggy.

Do I have to use puff pastry? Puff pastry gives the perfect flaky, crispy texture. You could experiment with crescent roll dough, but the result will be softer and less crisp.

Can I add other fillings? Absolutely! Pepperoni, cooked sausage, pesto, or a blend of cheeses all work great. Just make sure not to overfill.

How do I keep them crispy when reheating? Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes rather than using a microwave. This restores the golden, crunchy exterior without making them soggy.
