Step 5: Wrap the chicken up in the foil and place it in the air fryer basket or pan. Set the temperature to 370 degrees F for 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, flip your package. Be careful because some juice will come out, and it will be VERY HOT. Then air fry for another 7 minutes.

Step 6: Once the chicken has reached an internal 165 degrees, plate, serve, and enjoy!  Check your chicken when it’s done air frying with a meat thermometer to ensure it’s fully cooked. Remove from the package.

Step 7: To serve, add the chicken to a plate of rice and top with some shredded cheese and sliced jalapenos.

Air Fryer Mexican Chicken Foil Packet Recipe Tips

  • Don’t Overcrowd the Air Fryer – Space the foil packets slightly apart to allow airflow and prevent them from sticking together for even cooking.
  • Seal Tightly but Leave Room – Fold the foil securely around the chicken and veggies, but leave a little space inside the packet so the steam can circulate and cook everything evenly.
  • Check for Doneness – Chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C); use a meat thermometer to make sure it’s fully cooked before serving.
  • Add Cheese Toward the End – If you prefer cheese that’s just melted and not browned, add it during the last few minutes of cooking.
  • Customize Ingredients – Feel free to add other veggies or switch up the spices in the foil packets for a flavor twist.
  • Rest Before Serving – Let the foil packets rest for a few minutes after cooking to let the flavors meld and prevent burns from steam when opening.

Air Fryer Chicken Foil Packets Recipe Faqs

Can I use other cuts of chicken besides boneless, skinless breasts? Yes, boneless thighs or chicken tenders work well, too.

Can I make these foil packets ahead of time? Absolutely! Prepare the packets and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. This makes it easy to pop them in the air fryer when you’re ready to cook.

Is it safe to use foil in the air fryer? Yes, foil can be safely used in the air fryer. Just ensure it doesn’t block the air circulation by not overcrowding the basket.

Can I add other vegetables to the packets? Definitely! Try adding veggies like zucchini, cherry tomatoes, or sliced onions. Just be mindful that some vegetables may cook faster than others, so cut them into even pieces.

How do I prevent the chicken from drying out? Adding a bit of salsa, broth, or oil in the packet helps keep the chicken moist. Sealing the packet tightly also helps lock in moisture.

Can I reheat the chicken foil packets? Yes, you can reheat the packets in the air fryer for a few minutes, or you can open them up and warm the contents in a skillet or microwave.

How do I know when the chicken is done? The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Use a meat thermometer to ensure it’s fully cooked.

Can i wrap chicken in foil in air fryer? Yes, you can wrap chicken in foil for the air fryer! Using foil can help retain moisture and infuse flavors by keeping juices and seasonings close to the meat
