How To Make Air Fryer Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwich

Step 1: Preheat your air fryer temperature to 350 degrees F (175°C) for 1-2 minutes while you prepare the sandwich.
Step Two: Take one slice of bread and spread a thin layer of peanut butter. You can use creamy, crunchy, or chunky peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter, depending on your favorite peanut butter. Spread an even layer of your favorite jelly or jam on the other slice of bread. You can choose classic grape, strawberry, raspberry, or any flavor.

Step 3: Place the peanut butter-covered slice of bread on top of the jelly-covered slice to create a sandwich. Lightly butter the outside of the sandwich.
Step 4: Place the prepared sandwich in the air fryer basket. Set the cook time for 3-4 minutes on one side. Carefully flip the sandwich to the other side using a spatula or tongs. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes or until the sandwich is golden brown and crispy.

Grilled PBJ Air Fryer Recipe Tips
- Beware overfilling: Too much peanut butter or jelly can cause it to leak out while cooking.
- Slather and butter the outside: This is what gets you that golden, crispy exterior — the way they do it with grilled cheese.
- Parchment paper: It means less sticking, and easier cleanup.
- Flip halfway for even browning: This way, both sides stay nice and toasty.
- And let it cool a minute: The filling is hot, so wait a beat before serving.
Storing, Freezing & Reheating Instructions
- Storing: The sandwich can be wrapped tightly with foil or kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
- Freezing: Allow the sandwich to cool completely, and then wrap it in plastic wrap and transfer it to a large, freezer-stable bag. Freeze for up to 1 month.
- Reheating: Reheat out of the fridge in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes, or until heated through and crispy. If frozen, you don’t even have to thaw first — just add 2 more minutes.

What To Serve With Air Fried PB and J
These Air Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches are best served with basic sides that offset their warm, gooey tone. Serve alongside a couple of air fryer apple fries or strawberries, in a small bowl of yogurt, or even with a couple of Air Fryer Copycat Terra Vegetable Chips for a little fresh bite. For a playful twist, wash it down with a milkshake, or a smoothie for a nostalgic, satisfying meal or snack.
Grilled PBJ Air Fryer Recipe Faqs
Can I use other types of bread? Yes! Sourdough, brioche, and whole wheat are all great, just make sure it can hold up to the filling.
What temperature should I use? Cook at 350°F for 4–6 minutes, turning halfway through, until the outside is crispy golden.
Can I make it without butter? Absolutely! It’ll still toast up lovely, if perhaps slightly less golden and crisp.
Can I add extras, like banana or Nutella? Yes! The sliced banana, Nutella, or honey is a nice touch, but don’t overstuff or you’ll risk blowing out the side.
Should I preheat the air fryer? Preheating is not necessary, but it does help ensure that you get a crispier texture right from the get-go.
