Air Fryer Cinnamon and Sugar Roasted Chickpeas Recipe Tips
- Dry Chickpeas Thoroughly: After draining and rinsing the chickpeas, pat them dry with a paper towel. Removing excess moisture is key to achieving a crispy texture.
- Use a Light Coating of Oil: Toss the chickpeas with a small amount of oil to help the seasoning adhere and to aid in crisping. Avoid over-oiling as it can make the chickpeas greasy.
- Season Evenly: Mix the cinnamon and sugar with a little bit of salt for balance. Ensure the chickpeas are evenly coated by tossing them well before cooking.
- Cook in Batches: To avoid overcrowding, cook the chickpeas in batches if necessary. This allows for better air circulation and more even cooking.
- Shake the Basket Regularly: Shake the air fryer basket or stir the chickpeas halfway through cooking to ensure they roast evenly on all sides.
- Cool Before Storing: Let the chickpeas cool completely before storing them in an airtight container. This helps them stay crispy longer.
- Check for Doneness: Since air fryers can vary in temperature and cooking time, check the chickpeas frequently towards the end of cooking to prevent burning.
Air Fryer Cinnamon and Sugar Roasted Chickpeas Recipe Faqs
What type of chickpeas should I use for this recipe? You should use canned chickpeas (garbanzo beans) that are drained and rinsed thoroughly. You can also use dried chickpeas that have been soaked and cooked, but ensure they are well-drained and patted dry before cooking.
How do I get my chickpeas extra crispy? For extra crispy chickpeas, make sure they are completely dry before adding any oil or seasoning. Use a paper towel to pat them dry thoroughly. Cooking in a preheated air fryer and avoiding overcrowding will also help achieve a crispier texture.
Can I adjust the level of sweetness and spice? Yes, you can adjust the amount of cinnamon and sugar according to your taste preferences. For a sweeter flavor, add more sugar; for a spicier kick, increase the amount of cinnamon or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
How do I store leftover roasted chickpeas? Store leftover roasted chickpeas in an airtight container at room temperature. They should stay crispy for about 1-2 weeks. If they lose their crunch, you can reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes to revive their crispiness.
Can I use a different type of oil? Yes, you can use different oils like coconut oil or avocado oil if you prefer. Just ensure that the oil you choose has a high smoke point to avoid any burning or unpleasant flavors.

I used dry chickpeas and I Googled and it’s said I just need to soak them at least 8 hours. I did this and I think if I had actually cooked them first, they would come out a lot better, so it’s my fault they didn’t come out crispy, the way they’re supposed to, but just so somebody doesn’t do this in the future. Next time I will use canned chickpeas and do it right cause they do look good!
