Roasted Garlic in Air Fryer

While I used to roast garlic in the oven, making roasted garlic in air fryer is a lot easier. The oven takes forever, and honestly, I would only really do it around the holidays because who has the time? Now, I toss a few cloves into the air fryer and clean the kitchen or bake something while I wait.

There are so many things you can do with roasted garlic — beyond prepping holiday meals! Add some to your mashed potatoes, put it in soup, or use it to make your very own homemade aioli… just to name a few.

Luckily, this air fryer roasted garlic recipe makes adding that deep, rich, and savory flavor to all of your favorite dishes so easy. Plus you’ll have perfectly roasted results in just about 20 minutes.

  • Peeled Garlic: You can buy bulbs of garlic to peel yourself, or you can pick up one of the conveniently pre-peeled packages as shown above.
  • Olive Oil: You only need a bit for air fryer roasted garlic — a lot less than if you were to roast it in the oven! 1-2 tablespoons is perfect.
  • Salt & Black Pepper: Just some light seasonings so that the garlic has a chance to shine.

How to Peel Garlic

I’m not one to turn my nose up at a kitchen hack, which is why I personally prefer to buy pre-peeled garlic. Now, if you’re a purist who wants to peel it yourself, you can totally do that too!

To make it easy, place all of the cloves (skin on) into a jar and shake vigorously to separate the peel from the garlic. Remove your newly peeled cloves and discard the skins.

If there are any small pieces left, use your hands to remove them. Easy peasy!

How to Roast Garlic in Air Fryer

You guys aren’t going to believe how easy it is to roast garlic in air fryer! It’s proof that you don’t need a lot of time — or excess oil — to get the savory flavors you’re after. Below you’ll find step-by-step instructions to follow along as you make it at home.

Step 1: Prep the garlic

If you didn’t buy your garlic pre-peeled, peel and separate your garlic now.

Add the cloves to a piece of foil and drizzle olive oil over it. Sprinkle with some salt and pepper to taste. I season generously, but this is a personal preference.

Step 2: Air fry

Secure the foil tightly and then add the packet to your air fryer basket. Roast the garlic in air fryer at 370 degrees F for 15 minutes.

You can use your air fryer roasted garlic immediately, or store for later use. Enjoy!

Roasting Garlic in Air Fryer Pro Tips

  • Buy the pre-peeled garlic. Half the beauty of making roasted garlic in air fryer is just how easy it is. Make it even easier (and faster) by skipping the peeling step!
  • Season Generously: Roasting garlic brings out its rich, deep flavor. The olive oil, salt, and pepper add to this so don’t be afraid to add a few more shakes!
  • Don’t seal the foil too tightly. Wrap up the cloves just enough that they won’t blow around in the air fryer but don’t crumple the foil closed. They’ll roast more evenly if they aren’t all squished together.
  • Check for Doneness: The garlic should pierce easily with a knife or fork. If it’s still too hard, re-wrap and cook for another few minutes until it is nice and soft (but not mushy!).
  • Experiment with other spices: Salt and pepper are the basics, but you could also add paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper, or another one of your favorites for a unique twist!

Storage

If you don’t plan to use all of your garlic immediately, you can store it in a small, airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can also store it in the freezer for up to a month.

I roast garlic in air fryer almost weekly just so I have it on hand whenever I need it! Roasted garlic tastes much better than plain old minced garlic or powdered versions. And now that you know how to roast garlic in air fryer, you can too!

Roasted Garlic in Air Fryer FAQs

What are the benefits of eating roasted garlic?

In addition to being super tasty, roasted garlic has a ton of health benefits! It boasts high amounts of antioxidants which may boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and protect from chronic disease. Many also say it’s great for heart health. Its antibacterial properties could also be good for fighting off infection.

Can you eat too much roasted garlic?

Yes, it is possible. Garlic can directly stimulate your digestive tract and damage your stomach lining. That can cause uncomfortable symptoms like heartburn, flatulence, or even ulcers. That said, you would have to eat quite a lot of it to develop these symptoms! You can reap the health benefits by eating 1-2 cloves a day, and most people won’t want to eat more than that.

Can you put a whole head of garlic in the air fryer?

Yes. My recipe calls for cloves rather than a whole head because I find it comes out better. But, you can roast a whole head if you’d like!

How do you keep roasted garlic from burning?

The key is to protect it from the heating elements. That’s why I wrap the cloves in foil before making roasted garlic in air fryer! You need to cover them or else they could burn.
