This is an excellent recipe for those that want to make their jam but don’t have time or patience to wait. The Instant Pot can do it in minutes, from start to finish!
Today’s it’s all about Sour Cherry Jam (or preserves), my kids love this recipe. They can not get enough of it, it’s not only good as a jam, but it’s REALLY good over ice cream. One of the reasons, I started to can, many moons ago, is my oldest son has allergies, so I don’t use pectin in our house.
I have been making and canning preserves for about 15 years, and this is the EASIEST way, I have found.
I have been working on using my Instant Pot, for about 6 months. Some people, say I have an obsession, I only own 4. So, I think it not really an obsession yet. I have a number of amazing recipes, that I have been sharing on my blog

Easy Instant Pot Cherry Jam
For a long time I had no idea what was cherry jam. But now that I do, it’s my favorite! Cherry Jam is delicious and sweet because it has plenty of sugar in the recipe. There are many different ways to make this homemade dish including making it with fresh or frozen cherries as well as canned cherries.
You can even use honey instead of sugar for a healthier option! The preparation process also includes peeling and slicing the fruit if needed before cooking, but you’ll want to be sure to cook it down until its thick and spreadable like jam (hence the name!). And don’t forget about adding lemon juice or other flavorings like cinnamon, allspice, cloves, ginger root powder, cardamom pods…
Ingredients Needed For Instant Pot Cherry Jam
- Frozen Cherries
- Granulated Sugar
- Lemon Juice
- Pure Vanilla Extract
How To Make Cherry Jam Instant Pot
Add half the package of cherries to your Instant Pot, along with the sugar and lemon juice. Then add your lid, making sure it’s in the sealed position. Then using a manual high-pressure setting set the time for 3 minutes.
Instant Pot Cherry Jam Recipe Tips
- Pit the cherries: Make sure to remove all the pits before cooking to avoid bitter spots in your jam.
- Use fresh or frozen cherries: Both work great in this recipe, but if using frozen, thaw them before cooking.
- Adjust sweetness: Depending on your cherries’ sweetness, adjust the sugar to taste. Add a little lemon juice to balance it out.
- Natural release: Let the Instant Pot naturally release pressure for a smoother jam texture.
- Thicken with cornstarch: If your jam is too runny, mix a little cornstarch with water and stir it in after cooking.
- Sterilize jars: If you plan to store the jam long-term, ensure your jars are properly sterilized for safety.

Can I adjust the sweetness of the jam? Absolutely! Taste the cherries before adding sugar. You can reduce or increase the sugar depending on the sweetness of your cherries.
