Coleslaw is a great side dish for any meal. It goes with almost everything. I love a great fried chicken dinner, served with a hearty helping of mashed potatoes, gravy and a side of coleslaw. You can not do any better for coleslaw than the restaurant version of KFC.
The Secrets to Copycat KFC Coleslaw
There are a few secrets to the KFC Coleslaw recipe, which is why it’s so different then all of the other restaurant coleslaws.
The first one to mention is the use of Miracle Whip vs. regular mayonnaise. Miracle Whip is different from regular mayonnaise; it has about half the fat of mayonnaise. But, Miracle Sauce includes granulated sugar, paprika, and garlic powder.
The other main difference is the use of buttermilk in the coleslaw. While other coleslaw bases have just mayonnaise, the Kentucky Fried Chicken Coleslaw has both the Miracle Whip, milk, and buttermilk.
Another small difference, which you have ever eaten KFC coleslaw is that it’s almost shredded into small pieces. Rather than use the cabbage shredded, it’s diced into small pieces, resembling rice.

The original KFC was only green cabbage it didn’t have carrot in it. It was changed only in the last 5 to 10 yrs. And I personally stopped getting the coleslaw when I ordered it. And now even the chicken has changed it is no longer that nice and golden colour when the Colonel was alive. Now it is dark in colour probably due to the grease/oil is old. I will try this coleslaw recipe and see how it taste. My coleslaw is made with Miracle Whip, mustard, celery seed and pickle juice and no sugar in it

There is nothing better than Coleslaw from a restaurant that serves Chicken or Fish. Fish Camps are really my favorite place to order coleslaw. I usually get that as my 2 sides. Your recipe is spot on! I have pinned it and will be making it often!
