Recipe Variations

  • If you do not have leftover Thanksgiving turkey, you can use deli-sliced turkey.
  • I have also made this with chicken, you can either use leftover roasted chicken or even canned chicken.
  • Instead of broccoli, you can use thawed, frozen vegetables, for a twist on classic chicken pot pie.

Air Fryer Turkey Turnovers Recipe Tips

  • Use fully cooked turkey – Whether deli or leftover turkey, make sure it’s already cooked before adding to the turnovers.
  • Don’t overfill – Keep the filling light to prevent the turnovers from bursting open during cooking.
  • Seal edges well – Brush edges with egg white and press firmly to seal each turnover tightly.
  • Flip halfway through – Flipping ensures even browning and crispness on both sides.
  • Line the air fryer – Use parchment paper or a silicone liner for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  • Customize the filling – Swap broccoli for coleslaw, spinach, or cheese for fun variations!

Storing

  • Storing: Store leftover turkey turnovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Let them cool completely before sealing to maintain their flaky texture.
  • Freezing: Freeze cooled turnovers by placing them on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be frozen for up to 2 months without losing flavor.
  • Reheating: Reheat turkey turnovers in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5–7 minutes, or until heated through and crispy. Avoid microwaving to keep the pastry from becoming soggy.

Air Fryer Turkey Turnovers Recipe Faqs

Can I use deli turkey instead of leftover turkey? Yes! Deli turkey slices work perfectly and are a great shortcut if you don’t have leftovers on hand.

Can I add cheese or other fillings? Absolutely! Feel free to add shredded cheese, sautéed spinach, or even a little stuffing for extra flavor.

What type of dough should I use? You can use store-bought biscuit dough, crescent roll dough, or puff pastry sheets — all work great in the air fryer.

How do I keep the turnovers from opening while cooking? Be sure to brush the edges with egg white and press firmly to seal. Avoid overfilling, which can cause them to burst open.

Can I make these ahead of time? Yes! Assemble the turnovers and refrigerate for a few hours before air frying when you’re ready to serve.
