What Are Dates?
Dates are one of the most common ingredients used in Middle Eastern cuisine. Dates are very nutritious and can be eaten raw, cooked, or dried. They’re also an excellent source of fiber, potassium, calcium, iron, and other minerals. Dried dates can last for years without refrigeration, so they make a great long-term food storage option!
Dates have been cultivated since ancient times and were originally grown in Iraq by 4000 BC. The Romans introduced them to Europe around 300 AD, where they became popular as a healthy dessert food among the rich who could afford such luxuries.
They are sweet, chewy, and they have a rich flavor that complements many dishes. Dates can be used in desserts or eaten as a snack on their own. Today, we took a simple date and wrapped it around a bacon slice.
They are so good!

POSSIBLE VARIATIONS
This is a straightforward recipe to switch out; there are so many possibilities. Here are some great suggestions:
Cheese: The cheese variations are endless, from goat cheese, blue cheese, cream cheese to even simple mozzarella cheese.
Spanish countries serve these as tapas filled with Manchego Cheese.
Bacon: Use an applewood smoked prosciutto, or even pancetta, for this appetizer.
MAKE-AHEAD APPETIZER:
These are the best-ever bacon-wrapped cheese dates! You don’t need to wait for your next party or breakfast before snacking on these.
You can make them ahead of time, too, by filling the dates with cheese, and then wrapping them with bacon, and then putting a toothpick in the middle of them. Stick them onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. And place the baking sheet into the freezer until the dates and bacon are frozen solid. Remove and place into a freezer bag.
They will last for 1 to 2 months.
You can easily cook these from frozen or thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
How To Serve:
I love adding these to a charcuterie board or serve alongside with cheese as an appetizer at your next party.
