Create the perfect appetizer, snack, or salad topping with this quick and easy recipe for Fried Goat Cheese Balls, which can be made either in a deep fryer or an air fryer.
This is one of my favorites if you want a great, easy appetizer or snack. My kids and family absolutely loved this recipe! It was so good and easy!
I lightly coated it with an egg wash, tossed it into a batch of bread crumbs, then frozen it, and then repeated the wash and bread crumbs, so it would be amazing when it hit the air fryer.

It’s really that straightforward. This is, without a doubt, the ultimate hot cheese appetizer on Earth—a bold statement, but one I wholeheartedly believe!
Many types of Goat Cheese exist, but any will work in this recipe. The most common ones are Chevre and White Mold Goat Cheese.
Ingredients Needed
- Egg: The egg acts as a binding agent, helping to hold the herb goat cheese mixture together for a perfect texture.
- Water: A small amount of water can be added to adjust the consistency of the mixture, ensuring it’s easy to shape and coat.
- Seasoned Bread Crumbs: These add a delightful crunch and flavor to the outside of the goat cheese, enhancing the overall taste and texture.
- Optional: Marinara Sauce for Serving: A tangy marinara sauce complements the rich flavors of the herb goat cheese, providing a delicious dipping option.

Step Three: When the goat cheese is frozen solid, dip it again in the egg mixture and then into the bread crumbs. Place in the freezer for another 30 minutes or until frozen solid.
Step Four: Spray the basket with olive oil. Place the frozen goat cheese into the air fryer basket, and spray with olive oil. Set the temperature to 370 degrees F and air fry, set cook time for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, and respray the tops with olive oil.
Fried goat cheese balls air fryer recipe tips
- Chill the Cheese: Before shaping the goat cheese into balls, chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Use Parchment Paper: To prevent sticking, line the air fryer basket with parchment paper.
- Adjust the Cooking Time: Cooking times may vary based on your air fryer model. Start with 5-7 minutes and check for a golden brown color.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: For even cooking, arrange the goat cheese balls in a single layer without overcrowding the air fryer basket.
- Use Cooking Spray: Lightly spray the goat cheese balls with cooking oil before air frying to help achieve a crispy, golden exterior.
- Experiment with Coatings: Feel free to customize the breading by mixing in herbs, spices, or even crushed nuts for added flavor and texture.
- Serve Immediately: Fried goat cheese balls are best enjoyed hot and fresh. Serve them with marinara sauce or a balsamic reduction for a delicious dipping option.
- Keep Leftovers: If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the air fryer to regain their crispy texture.

Can I make these cheese balls in advance? Absolutely! You can shape the cheese balls and refrigerate them for a few hours or overnight before air frying. This helps them maintain their shape during cooking.
What should I serve with fried goat cheese balls? These cheese balls pair wonderfully with marinara sauce, honey, balsamic glaze, or a fresh salad. They also make a great addition to a charcuterie board.
