Spray your ramekins or another air fryer safely (remember, the air fryer is generally oven-safe) with olive oil spray. Scoop your batter into the greased ramekin.

Then, make your topping in a small bowl and mix the flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and sugar. Sprinkle on top. Then, set the ramekins into the air fryer for 12-14 minutes at 320 degrees F, air fryer setting.

Pro Tips

  • You can reduce the sugar to make them a bit healthier. To do that, either use stevia or another sugar substitute.
  • Depending on the size of the ramekin, this will make 1 or 2 muffins.
  • You can easily change the topping for a simple cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  • Do not overcook them. To check if they are fully done, stick a toothpick into the center of the muffin. When it comes out clean, remove it from the air fryer.
  • You could change it for any fresh fruit, and the recipe will remain the same.

Faq’s

Can I use different types of apples for these muffins? Yes, you can use various types of apples based on your preference. Sweet apples like Honeycrisp or Fuji add natural sweetness, while tart varieties like Granny Smith provide a zesty contrast.

Can I use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour? Yes, you can substitute part or all of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option. Keep in mind that whole wheat flour may result in slightly denser muffins.

How should I store leftover muffins? Store leftover muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. For longer storage, you can refrigerate them for up to a week or freeze them for several months.

Can I omit the nutmeg or cinnamon? You can omit nutmeg or cinnamon if you prefer, but keep in mind that they add essential flavor to the muffins. Adjust the spice levels to your liking.

Do I need to use muffin liners? While using muffin liners is optional, it can make cleanup easier and prevent muffins from sticking to the air fryer basket or tray. Greasing the muffin cups can also help with easy removal.

Can I add nuts or raisins to the muffins? Absolutely! For extra texture and flavor, chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans) or raisins can be added to the batter. Fold them in along with the chopped apples.

What is turbinado sugar, and can I substitute it? Turbinado sugar is a type of raw sugar with larger crystals. It adds a crunchy texture to the muffin tops. You can substitute it with regular granulated sugar if desired.

Can I make these muffins in a regular oven? Yes, you can bake these muffins in a preheated conventional oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of a muffin.

Are these muffins suitable for freezing? Yes, you can freeze these muffins for longer-term storage. Wrap them individually in plastic wrap, place them in a freezer-safe bag or container, and freeze for up to three months.

Can I reduce the sugar content in the recipe? You can reduce the sugar content slightly if you prefer less sweet muffins. However, remember that sugar contributes to both sweetness and moisture in the muffins.
