Air Fryer Cornbread Sausage Stuffing

Every Thanksgiving, I feel like my family is always rushing to stuff the turkey so we can eat before it gets too late.

This year, I tried out this recipe for stuffing made in the air fryer that turned out amazing! The sausage was delicious, and it had just enough seasoning without being too salty. It’s perfect when you’re short on time but don’t want your dinner guests to miss out on all of your traditional dishes.

If you love a great and easy Air Fryer Stuffing Recipe, this one has it all, from golden toasted cornbread to mild Italian sausage, and it’s perfectly seasoned.

What Is Cornbread Stuffing?

If you’re like me, then you can’t get enough of a fall. The leaves are changing colors, and the air is getting crisper. But there’s one thing I don’t love about this season- Thanksgiving dinner!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s delicious, but there’s always so much to prepare and make sure goes right that sometimes I feel overwhelmed by all the work. However, if I had cornbread stuffing on my side, things would be a lot easier!

Cornbread stuffing is bread crumbs mixed with cornmeal or other grains in addition to some vegetables or meat, which are then baked together in an oven until golden brown and crispy on top. It tastes fantastic with turkey gravy too! And making it in the air fryer is amazing! So join me as I make Air Fryer Cornbread Sausage Stuffing!

TIPS:

  • The ground sausage is optional-it adds an immense burst of flavor. Be sure to cook the sausage before adding it to the breadcrumb mixture
  • You can also use freshly baked cornbread. Cut into pieces and set out on the counter for several hours until dry/stale.
  • Use a digital instant-read thermometer to check the temperature deep down in the stuffing. The stuffing should be nice and hot (160°F for safe cooking of the eggs).

WHAT KIND OF SAUSAGE SHOULD I USE?

For this stuffing recipe, you can use a variety of sausages. Some of my favorites are mild country-style or Italian sausages with herbs and spices. Another great option is maple sausages, hot Italian sausage, or even spicy chorizo!

CAN I USE DRIED HERBS?

For the holidays, I tend to stock up on fresh herbs. I feel that they make a great meal even better. It elevates the dish. You can garnish the stuffing right before you serve with either fresh parsley or sage for this recipe.

Sage goes amazingly with turkey and brings out the poultry flavors.

CAN I STUFF THIS INSIDE MY TURKEY TO BAKE?

Ever wonder if you can stuff your turkey with a Cornbread Sausage Stuffing?

Yes, you can, but the cooking time for stuffing will vary depending on what dish it is cooked in. Still, we recommend checking the internal temperature of both ingredients before consuming them together as any item under 165 degrees F. Use a meat thermometer for best results.

DO YOU NEED TO TOAST THE BREAD FOR STUFFING, OR CAN YOU SKIP TOASTING?

Toasting the cornbread before you cook your stuffing will help prevent it from getting soggy, but you can omit this step if you want a moister stuffing.

For a crispier consistency in your dish, consider popping that cornbread out and placing them in the oven for a couple of minutes. This will make for a crunchier stuffing.

WHAT KIND OF CORNBREAD STUFFING MIX CAN I USE?

I have done this several times over the years. I have used everything from the store brand to Trader Joe’s, Costco, Pepperidge Farm, and even Bell’s Stuffing.

HOW TO MAKE CORNBREAD STUFFING AHEAD OF TIME

What’s better than a Thanksgiving feast? A Thanksgiving feast with no work involved! This cornbread stuffing recipe is super easy and can be made ahead of time. It doesn’t take much more effort to make your stuffing, but it gives you the option if you’re short on time this holiday season.

To make your stuffing a day in advance, prepare the ingredients up until just before air frying. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for when you are ready to air fry it!
