Crispy flour tortilla, seasoned beef, warm nacho cheese, a hidden crunchy tostada shell, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream — all folded into that famous hexagon shape and air-fried golden in 8 minutes.

This Air Fryer Copycat Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme delivers everything you love about the drive-thru classic: layers of seasoned beef, warm nacho cheese, a crisp tostada in the middle, cool lettuce and tomato, and a perfectly grilled flour tortilla on the outside. The air fryer crisps the wrap better than any skillet method, and the whole thing comes together in 30 minutes start to finish.
I’ve made this recipe more times than I can count for my two teenage boys, and after a lot of testing, this is the version that lands closest to the original — and arguably better, because you control how much beef and cheese goes in each one.

What Is a Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme?
A Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme is a large flour tortilla filled with seasoned beef, warm nacho cheese sauce, a crispy tostada shell, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and reduced-fat sour cream — folded into a sealed hexagon and grilled on both sides until golden. It launched as a limited-time menu item in summer 2005 and became permanent in January 2006 thanks to immediate popularity.
The hexagonal fold isn’t just for show — it’s an engineering choice. The shape locks the fillings in place so nothing leaks, the tostada in the middle stays crunchy because it’s separated from the wet ingredients, and the whole thing is meant to be eaten in your hand without falling apart. That’s the design we’re copying at home.
Why the Air Fryer Wins
A skillet works, but the air fryer beats it on three counts:
- Even browning on both sides without flipping (the air circulates around the wrap)
- Crispier outer tortilla — the dry heat draws moisture out instead of steaming it in
- No babysitting — set it and walk away
The original Fork to Spoon recipe below has been tested dozens of times. It’s the version my readers come back for again and again, and the air fryer instructions are dialed in.

Ingredients Needed

- 12-inch flour tortillas: Large burrito size tortillas for folding and layering fillings
- 6-inch flour tortillas: Smaller tortillas used to seal crunchwrap center securely
- Lean ground beef: Cooked seasoned beef adds savory protein-packed filling layer
- Taco seasoning: Bold spice blend adds classic taco flavor to beef
- Cumin garlic onion powder: Extra spices boost flavor depth and savory richness
- Nacho cheese sauce: Creamy tangy cheese sauce melts and binds layers together
- Tostada shells: Crispy flat shells add signature crunch inside wrap
- Sour cream: Cool creamy layer balances spices and rich fillings
- Shredded lettuce: Fresh crisp lettuce adds light texture and crunch
- Diced tomatoes: Juicy tomatoes add freshness and cut richness
- Sliced avocado or guacamole: Creamy avocado adds richness and classic flavor boost
How to Make Air Fryer Copycat Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme
Below, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to make a crunchwrap supreme! Be sure to refer to the pictures as you go — they make assembling so much easier.
Step 1: Cook the ground beef
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef, breaking it up into small crumbles as it browns. Once fully cooked, drain any excess grease.
Stir in the taco seasoning, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add a splash of water, mix well, then reduce the heat. Let it simmer until the mixture thickens and the liquid mostly cooks off. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 2: Add the meat and cheese
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for about 5 minutes so it’s hot and ready. Lay a large 12-inch tortilla flat on a clean surface. Add a portion of the cooked ground beef in the center, then spoon nacho cheese right on top.

Step 3: Top with tostada and veggies
Place a tostada shell over the beef and cheese layer. Add tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and a dollop of sour cream. Set a 6-inch tortilla on top, then fold the edges of the larger tortilla up and over, working your way around to seal it tightly.

Step 4: Air fry
Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray, then place the wrap seam-side down inside. Give the top a quick spray to help it crisp up evenly.
Air fry for 4 minutes, then flip the wrap and lightly spray again. Cook for another 4 minutes, or until both sides are golden brown and crispy.
Repeat with the rest of the ingredients and enjoy!

How to Fold a Crunchwrap
If you’ve never folded a Crunchwrap before, this is the step that intimidates people. It’s actually simple once you see the pattern.
- Lay your 12-inch tortilla flat on the counter.
- Pile your fillings in the center in a circle about 4 inches across — don’t spread them to the edges.
- Working around the tortilla like a clock face, fold the edge up and over the fillings in pleats — about 6 to 8 pleats, each one overlapping the last.
- Press the pleats down into the center to seal. The result should look like a closed pinwheel or hexagon.
- Cook seam-side down first. This is critical — the weight of the wrap presses the pleats together as the tortilla heats and crisps, sealing it shut.
If you can fold a paper fan, you can fold a Crunchwrap.
Tips for the Best Copycat Crunchwrap
- Use a 12-inch burrito tortilla — anything smaller won’t fold correctly. If you can’t find them, use a 10-inch and a small 6-inch tortilla on top to “patch” the seam.
- Warm your tortilla first. A cold tortilla cracks when you fold it. 15 seconds in the microwave under a damp paper towel makes it pliable.
- Don’t overfill. Tempting as it is to load it up, the seal won’t hold. Stick to about ½ cup of total filling per Crunchwrap.
- Spray the outside with oil. A light coat of olive oil spray gives that golden, glossy Taco Bell finish and helps the tortilla crisp evenly.
- Cook seam-side down for the first half, then flip. The seam fuses shut in the first 4 minutes — flip too early and it’ll pop open.

How Much Does This Save vs. Taco Bell?
A Crunchwrap Supreme at Taco Bell runs about $5.29 to $5.99 each in 2026, with around 530 calories. This homemade version costs less than $2 per Crunchwrap when you make a batch of four — and you get more beef, more cheese, and fresher vegetables. Make six and you’ve fed the whole family for the price of one drive-thru combo.
Variations
- Chicken Crunchwrap: swap the ground beef for shredded rotisserie chicken tossed with taco seasoning.
- Steak Crunchwrap: use sliced flank steak or carne asada — Taco Bell’s steak version uses this same fold.
- Vegetarian: skip the meat and double up on refried beans plus extra cheese.
- Breakfast Crunchwrap: swap the beef for scrambled eggs and breakfast sausage, add hash browns instead of the tostada — that’s the Taco Bell breakfast version.
- Spicy: add sliced pickled jalapeños inside, or a drizzle of creamy jalapeño sauce.
- Big Cheez-It Style: layer a giant Cheez-It cracker in place of the tostada (Taco Bell did this as a 2024 LTO and it works surprisingly well).
Storage and Reheating
Refrigerator: wrap leftover Crunchwraps tightly in foil and refrigerate up to 3 days. Note: lettuce and tomatoes will soften — if you’re meal-prepping, leave the cold toppings out and add fresh when reheating.
Freezer: assembled Crunchwraps freeze well before the lettuce and tomatoes are added. Wrap individually in foil, then in a freezer bag. Freeze up to 2 months.
Reheating: the air fryer is your best friend. 350°F for 3–4 minutes from the fridge, or 6–8 minutes from frozen (covered in foil for the first half, then uncovered). Microwaving makes the tortilla soft and ruins the crunch.

Air Fryer Copycat Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme Recipe FAQs
What is in a Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme? Seasoned beef, warm nacho cheese sauce, a crispy tostada shell, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and reduced-fat sour cream — all wrapped in a 12-inch flour tortilla and grilled into a hexagonal shape.
Why is my crunchwrap falling apart in the air fryer? Three usual culprits: too much filling, not folded tightly enough, or cooked seam-side up first. Cook seam-side down for the first 4 minutes so the heat fuses the pleats shut before you flip.
Can I make a Crunchwrap without a tostada shell? You can, but you’ll lose the signature crunch in the middle. Substitutes that work: a large tortilla chip, a pan-fried corn tortilla, or — yes — a giant Cheez-It cracker. Without something crunchy in the center, it’s just a folded burrito.
What size tortilla do I need for a Crunchwrap Supreme? 12-inch (burrito-size) flour tortillas. Anything smaller won’t fold properly. If you can only find 10-inch tortillas, place a small 6-inch tortilla on top of the fillings to bridge the gap before you fold.
Are Crunchwraps better in the air fryer or skillet? Air fryer wins on crispiness and ease — both sides cook at once, no flipping disasters, no oil splatter. A cast iron skillet is a strong second place if you don’t have an air fryer.
Can I prep Crunchwraps ahead of time? Yes. Cook the beef and prep all toppings up to 3 days ahead. I’d recommend assembling and air frying just before serving — assembled Crunchwraps held in the fridge get soggy fast because of the sour cream and tomatoes.
How many calories are in a homemade Crunchwrap Supreme? Comparable to the drive-thru version — around 530 to 600 calories per Crunchwrap, depending on how much cheese and beef you load in. The full nutrition breakdown is in the recipe card below.

What’s the purpose of the tostada- just the crunch? What can I use instead? Haven’t seen tostadas in Australia…

It’s the signature of the “Crunchwrap” you can use another tortilla, but you won’t get the “crunch”

Recipe worked perfectly! Very tasty! I never had the Taco Bell version, so I cannot compare. But I liked this as a change of pace from regular tacos.

Oh my goodness. So yummy. Followed the recipe almost exactly (less cumin for less spicy). My husband, adult son and I are loving these. Thank you so much. I have been very successful with all your recipes we’ve tried.
