What Is A Pot Sticker?
If you have been to any Asian restaurant in America, you will usually see them on the menu. They are steamed dumplings that are filled with ground meat, and vegetable filling and wrapped in dumpling wrappers.
In America, the most common fillings are ground chicken or ground pork, usually containing cabbage or bok choy. Typically they are served as an appetizer since they are not very big, and each dumpling can be eaten in 1-2 bites.
They are usually served with a sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, or another dipping sauce. The beauty of making these in the air fryer is they crisp up lovely, and you do not need to use a lot of oil to get them fried up.
How Did Pot Stickers Get Their Name?
Legend has it that when these were first prepared, they were supposed to be boiled. So, the chef left the room to do something, and when he came back, the water had evaporated. The chef was left with these dumplings that were sticking to the post, hence the name potsticker.

How To Make Homemade Copycat Panda Express Pot Stickers In Air Fryer

Step One: Prepare The Potsticker Filling
In a medium-sized bowl, mix the ground chicken, bok choy, garlic, scallion, light soy sauce, sugar, and ginger until fully combined, and set aside.
Step Two: Prepare The Paste
In a small bowl, stir together the water and flour to make a paste, and set aside.

Step Three: Assemble The Homemade Potstickers
Working with the wrappers, just a few at a time, keep the others fully covered, so they don’t dry out.
Place one tablespoon of the filling in the center of the wrapper. Dip your fingertip into the paste and run it along the edges of the wrapper. Pick up the wrapper and start to pinch the edges closed around the filling, making little folds here and there when you can. Make sure that there is no air trapped inside.

Place the folded dumplings onto a sheet tray lined with plastic wrap. Place another piece of plastic wrap on top to keep them covered while you make the rest. Continue with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step Four: Air Fry Homemade Potstickers
Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F, air fryer setting. Spray the basket with olive oil spray and place the dumplings in the basket, not touching. Spray the tops with more olive oil. You may need to do this in two bathes. Air Fyr for 3 minutes, flip them over, spray again, and air fry for an additional 2 minutes or until they are the crispness you prefer.
Serve with a dipping sauce of your choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where Do You Find Dumpling Wrappers?
They are located in the produce market at your local grocery store. They are usually located near the tofu.
Can I Use Wonton Wrappers For Potstickers?
Yes, if you can not find dumpling wrappers, then use wonton wrappers. What you want to do is make circles out of them. I would recommend between 3 and 4-inch circles.
You can either use a pizza cutter to cut the circles out or pick up one of the dumpling cutters from Amazon (affiliate link). I use this one, which is nice because it seals it and makes the pretty edges.
As you cut them, remember to keep them moist because they will dry out rather quickly, so leave them in the plastic sealed bag as you use them.
Pro Tips For The Best Air-Fried Homemade Potstickers
- Do not overfill the potstickers; you really want to be able to seal it well. Otherwise, the contents will end up in the air fryer basket.
- Do not crowd your air fryer basket; they will end up being unevenly cooked; for best results, leave room around the potstickers for the air to flow freely.
- Check and make sure they are crisped up. Since all air fryers cook at different times, it’s best to really check your potstickers halfway through the cooking process for the best results.
What Are Some Dipping Sauces For Potstickers?
While you can serve these with any dipping sauces, here are some of my favorites (affiliate links included)
What Should I Serve With Potstickers?
You can either serve these as appetizers or meals; I sometimes serve them with a bowl of my Instant Pot Chinse Chicken Fried Rice. Some other great options for a Chinese Feast.
- AIR FRYER CHINESE SPARE RIBS
- INSTANT POT VEGETARIAN CHINESE FRIED RICE
- AIR FRYER CHINESE DONUTS
