How To Make Air Fryer Copycat Krispy Kreme Donuts
The ingredients that I used today are:
- Self-Rising Flour
- Granulated Sugar
- Salt
- Greek Yogurt
- Unsalted Butter
- Powdered Sugar
- Whole Milk
- Pure Vanilla Extract
How To Make Donut In The Air Fryer
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the Greek yogurt and mix it until a dough forms. I like to use my hands for this.
Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F, air fryer setting. On a clean work surface lightly dusted with flour, roll out the dough until it is a little under 1/2 inch thick.
Cut the dough; I like to use a 4-inch cookie cutter for this plus a smaller size to make the donut holes.
Brush the basket with the melted butter and place the donuts, not touching into the basket. Brush with the butter. Air Fry for about 5-6 minutes (at 350 degrees F, air fryer setting) or until lightly golden brown. Repeat with the donut holes (same time and temperature)
While the donuts are air frying up, make the glaze/icing:
To Make the Glaze/Icing: Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a shallow bowl. You want the glaze to be thin yet thick enough o coat the donuts.
When the doughnuts are done cooking, immediately dip them into the glaze and coat them all over.
Place on a wire rack to cool.
Some Common Questions Asked About Making Homemade Air Fryer Donuts
How To Cut Homemade Donuts
If you have never made homemade donuts before, do not be worried, the best thing to do is roll out the dough on a floured surface using your rolling pin.
You are looking to roll the dough out, so it’s about 1/2 inch thick. Use your biscuit or cookie cutters to make the larger circle, and use a smaller biscuit cutter to make the inner circle.
How To Shape Donuts Without Donut/Biscuit Cutter
Do not fret if you do not have any biscuit or donut cutters; you can simply use a glass and a bottle cap (for the inner part).
The key is to make both circles a bit larger than the other one. So the outer ring is larger than the inner ring so that it reassembles a donut.
How To Make Donut Holes
Since you are going to end up with the inner circles, and probably some leftover dough.
You can either cut more out and have many donut holes, or roll them into balls, so they resemble donut holes.
The cook time will be exactly the same as regular sized donuts.
How To Make Donut Glaze
I have been making donut glaze or icing since I was a small child. The key my mother always gave me is that you want it the same consistency as glue.
Since most people can understand that, that is really a non-technical term, but it will get you the perfect homemade glaze/icing every single time.
The ingredients are always the same in any homemade icing recipe, powdered sugar, milk, and pure vanilla extract. Sometimes if you need to thin it out a bit, you can add some water.
I would advise you to dip the donuts since they will cover the donuts, better than trying to drizzle them on the donuts. Just use a shallow dish.
How Long Are Air Fryer Donuts Good For?
The truth is that all donuts taste better when fresh out of the air fryer or oven. There is nothing better than a hot donut. This is why Krispy Kreme Donuts are so good.
So, make as many as you want to eat in one sitting. This recipe is not that complicated, and unlike the yeast donut recipe, you do not have to wait hours for the dough to rise.
If you do have any leftovers, place them into an air-tight container. Then place the container on the counter.
When you are ready to eat them, pop them into the microwave for a couple of seconds, or place them back into the air fryer for about a minute. They will crisp up. You may want to make some fresh icing re-dip them since most of the icing will be running off due to the heat.
Freezing Air Fryer Copycat Krispy Kreme Donuts
Since these donuts are made with Greek Yogurt, I would advise you from freezing these donuts.
