How To Make Air Fryer Breakfast Grilled Cheese

Step One: Start by buttering your bread, one side of both pieces of bread. Lay the butter side down for both pieces of bread. On one piece of bread, add the cheese slices (I used provolone, but you can use anything you have in your refrigerator)

Step Two: Set your cook time for 5 minutes (you don’t have to preheat) at air fryer temperature of 350 degrees F. (air fryer setting). Depending on the air fryer, and you may not use all of the 5 minutes, stop air frying as soon as the cheese is melted.
Step Three: Top the melted cheese with an egg.

Air Fryer Breakfast Grilled Cheese Recipe Tips
- Cheese choice matters: Provolone melts beautifully, but cheddar, Swiss, or pepper jack all work for different flavor profiles.
- Butter evenly: Make sure both sides of the bread are evenly buttered to get that perfect golden crisp.
- Watch the cook time: Air fryers vary, so check at 4 minutes to avoid over-browning.
- Add extras: Avocado, tomato slices, or cooked bacon can take your breakfast sandwich to the next level.
- Use day-old bread: Slightly stale bread holds up better and crisps more evenly.
Storing Instructions
Cool any leftovers completely, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. Reheat in the air fryer at 325°F for 2–3 minutes to restore crispiness without overcooking the egg or cheese.

Easy Air Fryer Breakfast Grilled Cheese Recipe Faqs
Do I need to preheat the air fryer? No preheating is required for this recipe, but you can preheat for 2-3 minutes if you prefer extra crispy bread.
Can I use a different type of cheese? Absolutely! Cheddar, American, or Swiss all work well—choose your favorite or mix cheeses for extra flavor.
Can I make this vegetarian or vegan? For vegetarian, simply omit any meat additions. For vegan, use plant-based cheese, vegan butter, and skip the egg or use a vegan egg substitute.
Can I add extras like bacon or avocado? Definitely! Add cooked bacon, sliced avocado, or tomato for a more filling and flavorful breakfast sandwich.

Could you please clarify something for me? You say to butter your toast, are you toasting your bread first or should it say butter your bread?
Laurie
