How To Make Air Fryer Branzino

Prep the Fish: Whole branzino and fillets rinsed, patted dry, with diagonal slits scored on each side.

Step One: Rinse whole branzino or fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. For whole fish, make 2–3 diagonal slits on each side to allow seasoning to penetrate.

Season: Fish brushed with olive oil, seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, lemon slices, and fresh herbs.

Step Two: Brush the fish lightly with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, and minced garlic. Insert lemon slices and fresh herbs inside the cavity of whole fish or on top of fillets.

Step Three: Set your air fryer temperature to 380 degrees F (193°C), preheat for 3-5 minutes to preheat. Place the branzino in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry whole fish for 12–15 minutes or fillets for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway if desired, until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Remove carefully from the basket, garnish with additional lemon and herbs if desired, and serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Cook: Branzino placed in air fryer basket, cooking until golden, flaky, and opaque.

Easy Air Fryer Branzino Recipe Tips

  • Pat Fish Dry: Ensures crispy skin and prevents steaming.
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Cook in a single layer for even cooking.
  • Use Fresh Herbs: Parsley, thyme, or dill enhance flavor naturally.
  • Check Doneness: Flesh should flake easily with a fork.
  • Serve Immediately: Fish is best enjoyed hot and crispy.
  • Optional Citrus Boost: Squeeze extra lemon over the top before serving for brightness.

Storing, Freezing and Reheating Instructions

  • Storing: Let the cooked branzino cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Freezing: Wrap fillets tightly in plastic wrap and place in a freezer-safe bag; whole cooked branzino can be frozen for up to 1 month.
  • Reheating: Reheat fillets or whole fish in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes until warmed through and crispy. Alternatively, reheat in a 300°F oven for 5–7 minutes for even heat without drying out.

Air Fryer Branzino Recipe Faqs

Can I cook branzino whole or only as fillets in the air fryer? You can cook either whole branzino or fillets in the air fryer. Whole fish will take slightly longer, but both methods give crispy skin and tender, flaky flesh.

Do I need to season the cavity of whole branzino? Yes! Adding lemon slices and fresh herbs inside the cavity helps infuse flavor throughout the fish.

Can I use frozen branzino? It’s best to use fresh or fully thawed branzino for even cooking and crispy skin.

How do I know when the fish is done? The flesh should flake easily with a fork and be opaque all the way through.

Can I add other seasonings or toppings? Absolutely! Try garlic butter, paprika, or a drizzle of olive oil with fresh herbs to customize the flavor.

How do I prevent the fish from sticking to the air fryer basket? Lightly spray the basket with cooking oil or line it with parchment paper designed for air fryers.
