Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between spaghetti and spaghetti Bolognese? These two classic Italian dishes share many similarities. Many people categorize them as the same dish, but they have one defining difference. Spaghetti Bolognese is made with ground meat like beef or sausage.
Can I use whole tomatoes for my sauce? You sure can! If you have some extra time on your hands then you can use fresh or canned whole tomatoes in this recipe. You’ll want to use the equivalent of two 28 ounce cans of tomatoes. We recommend using San Marzano tomatoes if you’re going to do this. They are a little more expensive, but they bring a lot more flavor than other kinds of tomatoes.
Can I freeze my spaghetti Bolognese? You sure can! To freeze your Bolognese, let it cool on the stove until it is no longer hot to the touch. Once it has cooled down, pour it into a large Ziploc bag. Store it as flat as possible in the freezer. You can freeze your sauce for up to 3 months. When you are ready to enjoy your Bolognese, let it thaw in the fridge overnight and then reheat it on the stovetop until warm all the way through.
How to Store Your Leftover Spaghetti Bolognese You can store your Bolognese and spaghetti noodles separately in large Rubbermaid containers for up to 5 days in the fridge. Make sure you store them separately. The noodles and sauce will need to reheat for different amounts of time so you don’t want to combine them if you can avoid it.
Reheating: I find it easiest to just reheat all of my leftovers at once on the stovetop. Add your Bolognese to a large pot over medium heat. Stir the sauce frequently until it starts to bubble. Add in the noodles and let the dish reheat until warm all the way through.
