Ingredients Needed
- Brisket: Provides the perfect cut for smoking to juicy, tender perfection.
- Sea Salt: Brings out its natural flavors and enhancing the smoky taste.
- Yellow Mustard: Creates a flavorful base and helps the seasoning adhere to the meat, providing a tangy layer of flavor.
- Paprika: Adds a rich, smoky depth to the brisket’s crust, contributing both color and taste.
- Garlic Powder: Infuses the brisket with a savory, aromatic flavor that complements the smoky notes.
- McCormick Garlic And Herb Seasoning: Brings additional layers of flavor to the brisket’s rub.
- Water: Can help maintain moisture and tenderness throughout the smoking process.
How To Make Smoked Brisket On The Ninja Woodfire Grill
Step One: Start by preparing the brisket, seasoning it with salt and letting it sit for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight, in the fridge. You can choose to rinse off the salt or leave it on, depending on your preference.
Step Two: When you’re ready to cook, add food-grade wood pellets into the wood pellet burner of your Ninja Woodfire grill. Be sure to only use food-safe wood pellets.
Step Three: Turn on your Ninja Woodfire grill to the ‘smoke’ setting, ideally at 210°F, and set the cooking time to 1-1.5 hours per pound of brisket. If you’re using wood pellets, press the Woodfire Flavor Technology button and set the heat to ‘Lo.’ Let the grill preheat.
Step Four: While the grill is heating up, prep the brisket by brushing it with mustard to cover all sides. The mustard acts as a binder to help the spices adhere to the meat. Combine the paprika, garlic powder, and garlic and herb seasoning in a bowl. Coat the brisket with the seasoning mixture on all sides, pressing the spices into the mustard layer.
Step Five: Place the seasoned brisket into the preheated Ninja Woodfire, close the lid, and cook for about 1-1.5 hours per lb, or until the internal temperature reaches 190°F. Keep in mind, the seasoning will create a dark bark on the outside of the meat, but this is normal and not an indication of burnt meat. Once the brisket is done, let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve in slices or shredded, and enjoy your delicious smoked brisket!
Ninja Woodfire Grill Smoked Brisket Recipe Tips
- Use High-Quality Meat: Select a well-marbled brisket (ideally around 4-5 lbs) for the best results. The fat will melt and infuse flavor into the meat.
- Salt the Brisket: Season the brisket with salt and let it rest for at least 30 minutes or overnight. This helps draw out moisture and enhances flavor.
- Use Food-Grade Wood Pellets: Make sure you’re using food-grade wood pellets in your Ninja Woodfire Grill to avoid any toxic fumes or harmful chemicals.
- Monitor the Internal Temperature: Aim for an internal temperature of 190°F for the perfect tender and juicy brisket. Use a meat thermometer to check the doneness.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Grill: Ensure the brisket is placed in the center of the grill with enough space around it for the smoke to circulate evenly.
- Let the Brisket Rest: After cooking, let the brisket rest for at least 10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute for better flavor and tenderness.
- Try Different Spice Blends: While garlic and herb seasoning works great, feel free to experiment with your favorite spice blends for a unique twist on the flavor profile.
- Spritz the Brisket: If you prefer a moister brisket, consider spritzing it with water or a vinegar solution during the cooking process. This can help keep the meat moist and tender.
- Monitor Smoking Time: Keep an eye on the smoking time and temperature. Adjust the cooking time based on the size of the brisket (1-1.5 hours per pound).
- Rest the Brisket Before Slicing: Always let the brisket rest before slicing it to lock in the juices and make it easier to carve.
Storing
- Storing: To store smoked brisket, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place it in an airtight container. Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days for optimal freshness.
- Freezing: For longer storage, slice the smoked brisket and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and foil or vacuum seal it before freezing. It can be stored in the freezer for up to 2-3 months and still retain great flavor.
- Reheating Smoked Brisket: Reheat smoked brisket by wrapping it in foil and placing it in a preheated oven at 250°F until heated through, about 20-30 minutes. Alternatively, you can reheat it on a stovetop by simmering it in a small amount of beef broth to retain moisture.
What To Serve With Smoked Brisket
Smoked brisket pairs wonderfully with a variety of sides that complement its rich, smoky flavor. Classic choices include creamy mashed potatoes, tangy coleslaw, and cornbread for a Southern touch. Grilled vegetables like asparagus or roasted carrots bring a light, savory balance to the meal, while baked beans add a sweet, smoky depth. For a refreshing contrast, serve a simple green salad with a zesty vinaigrette or pickles to cut through the richness of the brisket. Whether you’re looking for hearty sides or lighter accompaniments, these options will elevate your smoked brisket experience.
Ninja Woodfire Grill Smoked Brisket Recipe Faqs
Can I use any type of wood pellets for smoking? It’s essential to use food-grade wood pellets for smoking to ensure safety and the best flavor.
What’s the ideal temperature for smoking brisket on the Ninja Woodfire Grill?
For a perfectly smoked brisket, set the Ninja Woodfire Grill to the ‘smoke’ setting at 210°F. This low and slow method ensures tender, juicy results.
How long should I cook the brisket? The cooking time will vary depending on the size of your brisket, but a general guideline is 1 to 1.5 hours per pound. The internal temperature should reach 190°F for a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Should I wrap my brisket during the smoking process? You can wrap your brisket in foil (also known as the Texas Crutch) halfway through cooking to help retain moisture. However, it’s not necessary—leaving it unwrapped will result in a more pronounced bark.
What should I do if my brisket has a dark bark? A dark bark is completely normal and a sign that the spices and smoke have created a flavorful crust. It does not mean the brisket is burnt, so don’t worry—it adds to the flavor!
Can I cook a smaller or larger brisket using the Ninja Woodfire Grill? Yes! You can cook smaller or larger briskets in the Ninja Woodfire Grill, but remember to adjust the cooking time accordingly. For smaller briskets, check for doneness earlier; for larger ones, expect longer cook times.
