How To Make Copycat BLTE First Watch

Cooking crispy bacon in skillet until golden.

Step 1: Start by cooking the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until it’s crispy and golden, then set it aside on paper towels to drain.

Step 2: n the same pan, cook your egg to your liking—fried with a runny yolk works best for that rich, café-style bite. While everything cooks, toast your bread until golden brown so it holds up to the layers without getting soggy.

Spreading mayonnaise on toasted bread for creaminess

Step 3: Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on one or both slices of toast for extra creaminess and flavor.

Step 4: Build the sandwich by layering lettuce, tomato slices, crispy bacon, and the cooked egg on the toasted bread. Top with the second slice of bread, press gently, slice in half, and serve immediately while everything is warm and crisp.

Copycat BLTE First Watch Recipe Tips

  • Use thick-cut bacon so it stays crispy and adds real smoky bite instead of turning soft in the sandwich.
  • Toast the bread well so it holds up to the juicy tomato and egg without getting soggy.
  • Cook the egg your way, but runny yolk wins for that rich, restaurant-style finish.
  • Season the tomato lightly with salt and pepper to boost flavor instead of tasting bland.
  • Spread mayo edge to edge so every bite stays creamy and balanced.
  • Assemble right before serving to keep textures crisp and fresh.
  • Don’t overload the sandwich or it becomes messy and hard to eat.
  • Let bacon drain properly on paper towels so it stays crunchy, not greasy.

Storing and Make Ahead Instructions

  • Storing Instructions: Store leftover BLTE components separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Keep the bread, bacon, and vegetables apart to prevent sogginess.
  • Make Ahead Instructions: Cook the bacon and boil or fry the egg ahead of time for quick assembly later. Toast the bread and slice fresh tomatoes just before serving for the best texture and flavor.

Copycat BLTE First Watch Recipe Faqs

What does BLTE stand for? BLTE stands for bacon, lettuce, tomato, and egg—a twist on the classic BLT sandwich.

What type of bread works best? Sourdough, brioche, or thick sandwich bread works best because it holds up to the fillings.

Can I use turkey bacon instead? Yes, turkey bacon works, but it won’t be as crispy or rich as regular bacon.

What kind of egg is best for a BLTE? A fried egg with a runny yolk gives the best flavor and texture, but scrambled or over-hard also work.

How do I keep the sandwich from getting soggy? Toast the bread well and assemble right before eating to keep everything crisp.

Can I make it ahead of time? You can prep ingredients ahead, but it’s best assembled fresh.

What sauces go well with a BLTE? Mayonnaise, aioli, hot sauce, or even a light mustard all pair well.

Is this good for lunch or just breakfast? It works for any meal—breakfast, brunch, lunch, or even a quick dinner.
