How To Make Air Fryer Upside Down Caramel Apple Cake
Preheat your air fryer to 320 degrees F and grease a cake pan or springform pan. Melt the butter, brown sugar, vanilla cinnamon, and salt in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir and cook for 2 minutes until the mixture thickens.
Pour the caramel sauce into the bottom of your prepared pan. Arrange the apple wedges on top of the caramel sauce in the pan.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl until combined. Use an electric or hand mixer to blend the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy in a large bowl. Stir in the eggs one at a time until combined. Add in the vanilla, followed by half of the dry ingredients until incorporated—mix in the remaining dry ingredients, followed by the milk, until just combined.
Spread the batter over the caramel apple mixture.
Bake in the air fryer for 20-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. If the toothpick comes out with uncooked batter, return to the air fryer and bake for several more minutes.
Once the cake has finished baking, allow it to fully cool before removing it from the pan. When you are ready to transfer to the serving plate, place the plate over the top of the cake and invert it to transfer. Slice and serve, enjoy!
Pro Tips!
Pan Notes: If using a springform pan, wrap foil around the bottom of the pan to prevent any of the caramel topping from dripping out during baking.
Size of Cake Pan: Since all air fryers are different sizes. This recipe will make two smaller cakes or 3-to 4 mini cakes, depending on your pan size.
Cooking To Fast? Placing foil tightly over the top of the loaf pan halfway through the cooking process can help prevent the top from browning too much.
How to Make Upside-Down Caramel Apple Cake In the Oven: To bake this recipe in the oven with a standard 9-inch cake pan, preheat to 350F and bake for 55-60 minutes.
Room Temperature Ingredients: For best results, start with room temperature ingredients before mixing them.
