How To Make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips
Step One: Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees, using air fryer setting, for 3-5 minutes.
Step Two: Wash and peel the sweet potatoes with a vegetable peeler to remove the skin. Set the mandolin to 2 mm.
Note: Do a few test slices to ensure your thickness is where you want it. The sweet potatoes should be as thin as a dime. They won’t crisp up after cooking if you slice them too thick. Slice the sweet potatoes being careful of the blade. Be sure to use the safety guard that came with your mandolin or a cut-resistant glove.
Step Three: Place the sliced sweet potatoes and the remaining ingredients in a large bowl and toss them together. You will have to get in there with your hands to ensure the spices get evenly distributed over both sides of the sweet potato slices.
Step Four: Place the sweet potato slices in the preheated air fryer basket. It’s OK if they overlap slightly because they shrink as they cook. Place a wire rack on top of the sweet potato slices so they don’t fly around and get stuck in the air fryer fan.
Step Five: Set cook time for 5 minutes. Start checking at the 3-minute mark. Some of the chips will cook faster than others. Remove any chips that are brown around the edges. They will be pliable when you take them out of the basket but will start to crisp up as they cool. Serve the chips with sandwiches, burgers, or a snack.
Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips Recipe Tips
- Slice thinly and evenly: Use a mandoline for consistent, thin slices to ensure even cooking and crispness.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket: Arrange the slices in a single layer to allow for proper air circulation, making the chips crispy.
- Flip halfway through: Turn the chips halfway through the cooking process to ensure both sides become crispy.
- Watch closely to prevent burning: Sweet potatoes can go from perfect to burnt quickly, so keep an eye on them toward the end of cooking.
- Add seasoning after air frying: Toss the chips with seasoning immediately after air frying for the best flavor.
