What Are Dumplings?
Dumplings are a type of food that is popular in many different cultures. They can be made from all sorts of ingredients, including potatoes, rice, and meat. Dumplings are usually boiled or steamed before eating, but they can also be fried or baked. You may have seen dumplings on the menu at your favorite restaurant but did not know what they were called until now!
What Are Potstickers?
What are potstickers? Potstickers, or dumplings as they’re sometimes called, are a type of Asian food that originated in Northern China. Potstickers can be made with all sorts of different ingredients and flavors, including pork, beef, seafood, and vegetables. They come in many different shapes too! The most common shape is the crescent moon shape – which you could probably guess from their name. These little appetizers make for a delicious snack on their own and go well with dipping sauces like soy sauce or vinegar. You can find them at any grocery store near the other frozen foods section too!
What Are Gyoza?
Gyoza is an Asian dumpling that is popular in Japan, China, and Korea. They come with different fillings inside, but most commonly, they have pork or vegetables. Gyoza can be boiled, pan-fried, or deep-fried and then eaten after dipping it into a soy sauce-based dip such as shoyu. The origin of gyoza is unknown, but it’s thought to be from the Chinese jiaozi, which was brought to Japan by Buddhist monks.
What Are Wontons?
Wontons are a type of dumpling that is typically filled with pork, shrimp, or vegetables. The dough can be made from either wheat flour or glutinous rice flour. They are boiled in water before being fried to brown the outside and then steamed for serving. These dumplings are popular because they can be eaten as an appetizer, main course, or even dessert!
AIR FRIED FROZEN POTSTICKERS, DUMPLINGS, GYOZA, WONTONS? ARE THEY THE SAME THING?
Depending on where you purchase these frozen appetizers from, they will be called different things.
They are usually almost all identical, but the fillings will change shape. All of the different items will be filled with slightly different ingredients.
But they will all cook up the same in the Air Fryer.

TIPS ON COOKING FROZEN DUMPLINGS IN THE AIR FRYER
- This recipe will work in any Air Fryer Basket or Oven Model. I have also made these several times during the year in the Ninja Foodi, Instant Pot Vortex, GoWise, Instant Pot Crisp Lid, and Mealthy Lid. The recipe will remain the same.
- If you cook too many dumplings in a single layer, they’ll become soggy and fall apart. Divide up the batches into multiple batches, leaving space in between the frozen food.
- To get the perfect crispy texture on the outside of your dumplings, make sure to spray & completely coat them in oil. This will prevent a dry and hard wrapper from forming when cooking!
- For best results, add them to the air fryer while they are still frozen.
HOW TO RE-HEAT AIR FRYER FROZEN DUMPLINGS
I’m going to show you how to re-heat those frozen dumplings your air fryer made and didn’t get around to eating. I know, it’s a shame they’re not as fresh as when they first came out of the fryer, but we still want them, right?
Add the leftover dumplings to the air fryer basket, spray them generously with cooking spray, and then set the temperature to 400 degrees F, air fryer setting, for 4 to 8 minutes, Just long enough for the dumplings to be warmed through.
