Air Fryer Copycat Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Air Fryer Copycat Cracker Barrel Fried Apples — Every day, we crave that sweet and tangy taste of fried apples. They’re a perfect complement to breakfast, lunch, or even dinner! It’s time to get your Air Fryer out and make these copycat crispy oven-baked Cracker Barrel Fried Apples! You won’t believe how easy they are to make in the air fryer without all the calories.

Air Fryer Copycat Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Inspired by my son’s favorite snack at Cracker Barrel, Air Fryer Fried Apple Fries are outstanding!

My family loved them, and they are a great snack to serve along with an air fryer pork chop dinner, which is what I did, and they also make a fantastic side dish or snack for the kids! Who doesn’t love a battered deep=fried apple?

You need only a few ingredients to make these delicious air-fried fried apple fries. The coating is excellent, and you can switch it out for regular all-purpose flour, or gluten-free flour, although I find that the almond flour works so much better in the air fryer.

Spray your basket with cooking spray, and then place your coated apples on top. Spray the coating GENEROUSLY with cooking spray. This will help them crisp up. Set the temperature to 350 degrees F, air fryer setting, for 4-5 minutes.

WHAT ARE THE BEST APPLES TO USE?

There are so many different types of apples. The best apples to use depend on what you’re making. There are tart apples, sweet apples, and even some that have a little bit of both! When it comes to fried apples, go with Granny Smiths or another variety without much sugar in them like Golden Delicious.

Golden Delicious is the brand that Cracker Barrel uses, so if you want a genuinely copycat recipe, use that variety. Otherwise, any of these apple varieties will work:

  • Granny Smith
  • Gala
  • Honeycrisp
  • Golden Declious

SHOULD I PEEL THE AIR FRYER APPLE WEDGES?

I love apple wedges. They’re a great healthy snack to have ready for when you get hungry, but this time I’m not sure if it’s worth peeling them or not.

The results will be the same, so if you want to skip peeling, go for it. While the apple cooks up, the apple peel will soften.

WHY ARE THEY CALLED APPLE FRIES

Ever wonder why they’re called “apple fries” when there’s no apple involved? It turns out the name is a misnomer. The original recipe for these treats came from France and was called Pommes Frites au sucre (sugar fried potatoes). Somehow over time, the word “pomme,” which means apple in French, got translated into “apple.” These days it seems like these french fry-like snacks are everywhere!!

HOW TO SERVE FRIED APPLES:

Today we are going to talk about fried apples. Fried apples are a dish that consists of apples that have been breaded and then air fried. You can serve them alone or with ice cream, whipped cream, or other types of desserts. Serve them as a side dish to your meal or as an after-dinner treat!

HOW TO STORE AND REHEAT LEFTOVER FRIED APPLES:

You will love the crispiness of these fried apples, and it’s so easy to make! Place any leftover apple fries into an airtight container; they’ll stay well in the refrigerator for a couple of days.

You can either reheat in the microwave or air fryer, reheat until warmed through.

CAN YOU FREEZE CRACKER BARREL FRIED APPLES?

You can freeze them, but they do not defrost well. You will end up with a watered-down apple. So, make a fresh batch in the air fryer for best results when your Cracker Barrel Fried apple craving hits!

SERVE WITH:

Traditional these are served with caramel, and I made a great homemade one, but other options are:

  • Caramel
  • Hot Fudge
  • Ice Cream (my kid’s favorite)
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • Whipped Cream
  • Anything you want

We had use or lose apples when I found this recipe. What Luck because I found a great addition to our recipes 🙂
I admit, I was leery with just using the lemon juice to coat before the almond flour.
But it did the job to make the almond flour stick and the final apple fries were not tart.
We needed an extra 5 min of cook time for our Cuisenart air fryer.
We chose to use brown sugar and pumpkin spice to coat with after. They did not last long!!! Thanks 🙂

I was raised on baked apples just like these, with the exception that we added some brown sugar to the filling. Mine in the air fryer turned out so delicious and yummy, a perfect treat or dessert anytime! Thanks
