How To Make Air Fryer Chocolate Chip French Toast Casserole

Step One: Spray your baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, mix the eggs, evaporated milk, unsweetened condensed milk, pure vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.

Step Two: Fold in the bread, coating them well.

Step Three: Transfer the custard-coated bread to the prepared baking dish, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top, then place the dish in the air fryer at 320°F and cook for 12–15 minutes, or until the casserole is fully set. Serve warm, garnished with powdered sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Air Fryer Chocolate Chip French Toast Casserole Recipe Tips
- Use day-old bread: Slightly stale bread soaks up the custard without falling apart.
- Soak overnight: Refrigerate the custard-soaked bread overnight for maximum flavor and a custardy texture.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan: Leave some space in the air fryer basket for even cooking.
- Check doneness: Cook until golden brown and the custard is set in the center.
- Chocolate chip placement: Sprinkle on top last so they melt perfectly without sinking too deep.
- Optional toppings: Add powdered sugar, maple syrup, or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
Storing Instructions
- Refrigerator: Let the casserole cool completely, then cover tightly with plastic wrap or an airtight container. It will keep for 3–4 days.
- Freezer: Wrap individual portions or the entire casserole tightly in plastic wrap and foil, or use a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 2 months.
- Reheating: Air fryer or oven works best—reheat at 350°F for 5–8 minutes to keep the top slightly crisp. Microwaving is faster but may soften the bread slightly.

Air Fryer Chocolate Chip French Toast Casserole Recipe Faqs
Can I use fresh or frozen chocolate chips? Both work! Fresh chocolate chips melt nicely on top, while frozen can be used straight from the bag—just sprinkle on top before cooking.
Can I make this ahead of time? Yes! Assemble the custard-soaked bread, cover, and refrigerate overnight. This allows the bread to soak up the custard fully for a richer, fluffier casserole.
What type of bread works best? Day-old brioche, challah, or French bread holds up well and soaks the custard without falling apart.
Can I freeze leftovers? Absolutely. Wrap slices or the whole casserole tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer or oven for best results.
How do I know when it’s done? The custard should be set, the top golden brown, and a knife inserted in the center should come out mostly clean.
Can I make this dairy-free? Yes! Use non-dairy milk, vegan chocolate chips, and a butter substitute. The texture may vary slightly but it will still be delicious.
