How To Make Air Fryer Spinach Quiche
Step One: Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the paprika, English mustard powder, salt, and cheese. Kneed with 3-4 tablespoons of cold water. Knead until a soft smooth dough has formed.
Step Two: Wrap the dough with cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Step Three: Add to a pot the spinach, onions, nutmeg, and season with salt and pepper. Cook slowly on medium heat, covered. Remove from the heat and allow to cool somewhat. Add the remaining ingredients (except one egg) and mix well.
Step Four: Take the pastry out of the refrigerator and roll it out with a rolling pin. Line a 9” Pie dish with the pastry and decorate the edges with the end of a fork. Prick the pastry all over to allow even cooking. Place the pie dish (with pastry) into the air fryer, at 320 degrees F, air fryer setting for about 8 to 10 minutes, just until golden brown.
Step Five: Spoon the filling into the pie dish on top of the pastry. Beat the remaining egg and brush all over the top of the quiche. Place back into the air fryer at 300 degrees F, air fryer setting, set cook time for 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool (and set) before serving.
Air Fryer Spinach Quiche Recipe Tips
- Pre-Cook the Crust: If using a pie crust, pre-cook it slightly in the air fryer for a few minutes before adding the filling to ensure it turns out flaky and golden.
- Drain the Spinach Well: Excess moisture from spinach can make the quiche watery, so be sure to drain it thoroughly.
- Add Cheese for Flavor: Mix in grated Parmesan or sharp cheddar for a boost of flavor.
- Use Parchment Paper or a Pie Pan: Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper, or use a small pie pan that fits inside, to make removing the quiche easier and prevent sticking.
- Experiment with Fillings: Add other vegetables like mushrooms, bell peppers, or tomatoes, or try adding cooked bacon or ham for extra flavor.
- Check for Doneness: To ensure the quiche is fully cooked, gently shake the air fryer basket at the end of cooking; the center should be set, not jiggly.
- Adjust Cooking Time as Needed: Air fryer models can vary, so keep an eye on your quiche and adjust the cooking time as needed.
- Cool Slightly Before Serving: Let the quiche cool for a few minutes after cooking. This helps the filling set and makes it easier to slice.
Air Fryer Spinach Quiche Recipe Faqs
Can I use fresh spinach instead of frozen spinach? Yes, you can use fresh spinach. Just sauté it briefly to remove excess moisture before adding it to the quiche mixture.
Do I need to thaw the frozen spinach first? Yes, thawing and draining the frozen spinach will help prevent excess moisture in the quiche.
Can I substitute cottage cheese with another type of cheese? Absolutely! You can use ricotta cheese as a substitute for a similar texture, or increase the Parmesan if you prefer a stronger cheese flavor.
How do I prevent the crust from getting soggy? Pre-baking the crust for a few minutes in the air fryer can help keep it crisp. This step is optional but recommended for best results.
Can I make this quiche without a crust? Yes, you can make it crustless by pouring the filling directly into a greased pan or ramekin. It will cook up like a frittata.
What type of cream should I use? Heavy cream is ideal for a richer texture, but half-and-half can work as a lighter option if preferred.
Can I freeze leftovers? Yes, leftover quiche can be frozen.
