Step Two: Mix Your Chocolate Cake Batter

Step Three: Air Fry Homemade Chocolate Cake

Pour in equal amounts of batter into each pan, place the pans into the air fryer, set the temperature to 320 degrees F, and cook for about 12 to 15 minutes. Before removing your cake from the air fryer, use a cake tester or toothpick to poke a hole in the middle of the cake to test for doneness. It is done if the tester comes out with just a few crumbs. If the batter is still runny, put the cake back in and check at five-minute increments.

Once the cake is made, remove the pans from the air fryer and let them cool. As they are cooling, prepare the frosting.

How To Make Chocolate Frosting

How To Make Chocolate Cake In The Air Fryer

Step One: Prepare The Chocolate Frosting

In a medium-sized bowl, add in the canned chocolate frosting, the vanilla, the powdered sugar, and the butter. Turn the mixer on low speed and start mixing the ingredients. Slowly increase the speed to medium and thoroughly incorporate the elements together.

Turn the mixer off and check to see if the frosting is the consistency you are looking for. If it’s not as thick as you’d like, add more powdered sugar, then turn the mixer back on and mix until you get the consistency you want.

Step Two: Assemble The Cake

Once the cake has cooled and the frosting is ready. Place the bottom piece of cake on your cake stand and add ¼ cup of frosting onto the top of the cake. Frost the top and then add on the top of the cake; add another ¼ cup of frosting to frost the top. If you want to put a crumb coat on the cake, place the cake into the fridge to set it up for 30 minutes to an hour.

Remove the cake from the fridge, then finish frosting the top and sides of the cake. If you don’t want the crumb coat, continue frosting the cake after you frost the top of the cake.

Pro Tips For Cooking Air Fryer Chocolate Cake

  • This cake recipe uses a store-bought cake mix and canned frosting. If you have a favorite from-scratch recipe for both, feel free to use that.
  • Sifting the cake mix, flour, and cocoa powder ensure getting rid of the lumps in your dry ingredients and helps to aerate those ingredients. You will notice a difference in your finished desserts.
  • When measuring your flour, make sure you scoop it out with a spoon and level it with a knife. Do not just scoop out the flour with a measuring cup. You will not get an accurate measurement.
  • For this recipe, we used Dutched pressed cocoa powder. Dutch cocoa powder is cocoa powder that has gone through an alkaline treatment process that has removed some of the acidity. It’s more of sweeter cocoa.

Can I Use Gluten-Free Baking Flour In This Cake?

Use the same amount as called for in the recipe.

You can substitute it for whole-wheat flour or a mixture of whole-wheat and all-purpose flour.

How Far In Advance Can I Make This Cake?

I usually make it no more than two days ahead; otherwise, it will dry out over time.

If you do make it ahead of time, make sure that you secure it with saran wrap to remove all of the air.

Can You Bake Cakes In An Air Fryer?

It’s effortless; baking is perfected in the air fryer because the air naturally circulates.

I like to air fry my cakes at 320 degrees F, air fryer setting so that they don’t dry out, and I find that air frying at a higher temperature will cause the outside to become brown before the inside is completely baked.

How to Store the Cake

You can usually make a cake a day or two before you need it. Just allow the cake to cool completely before you store it. I typically wrap it in saran wrap. If you want to freeze the cake, wrap it up, and it will keep for about a month. To use the cake after freezing it, let it defrost in either the refrigerator or at room temperature.

The Best Pans For Making An Air Fryer Cake

Cooks everywhere know that the right pans can make all the difference in the outcome of a dish. The same is true for air fryer cakes!

The biggest mistake people use is using too thick of a pan, and the middle does not cook. Here are my favorite Air Fryer Cake Pans:
