Ingredients
Here are the simple ingredients, you will need: The full instructions are below in the printable recipe card, at the bottom of the post.
- Ground Turkey: I opted for 93% lean ground turkey because using turkey with less fat can result in a dry texture, which I try to avoid. If you’re using frozen meat, make sure to thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before air frying.
- Seasonings/Spices: Use your favorites, some great ones are salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- Oil: Use any of your favorite oils, I used olive oil, since the taste is neutral.
How To Air Fry Ground Turkey
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
Step One: Start by adding the ground turkey to a pan, or pick up this air fryer silicone liner, that I love, and use frequently in my air fryer. Or use a regular baking pan, that fits into the air fryer, but leaves enough space to allow the hot air to flow around the ground turkey.
Step Two: Add your oil, and seasonings, and mix well.
Step Three: Set the pan into the air fryer basket, set the temperature to 370 degrees F, and set cook time for 5 minutes, then stir the turkey, and continue to air fry for another 4 to 5 minutes. Before you remove the ground turkey, make sure that you check the internal temperature of the turkey, when the internal temperature reads 165 degrees F, you can safely remove the ground turkey.
Air Fryer Ground Turkey Recipe Tips
- Choose the Right Lean-to-Fat Ratio: Use 93% lean ground turkey for juicy results.
- Season Generously: Ground turkey can be bland on its own, so be sure to season it well. Use spices like garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, and salt for added flavor.
- Cook in Batches: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket, as this can lead to uneven cooking. Cook the turkey in batches if necessary.
- Use a Meat Thermometer: Ensure the ground turkey is fully cooked by checking the internal temperature. It should reach at least 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
- Avoid Overcooking: Keep an eye on the cooking time to prevent the turkey from drying out. Start checking for doneness around the 8-minute mark.
- Add Vegetables: For added flavor and nutrition, mix in diced onions, bell peppers, or zucchini while cooking the turkey.
- Experiment with Marinades: Marinating the turkey before cooking can infuse it with flavor. Consider using teriyaki sauce, taco seasoning, or a homemade marinade.
- Let it Rest: Allow the cooked turkey to rest for a few minutes after removing it from the air fryer to retain moisture.
- Store Leftovers Properly: If you have leftovers, cool the ground turkey completely before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
