Air Fryer Elephant Ears

Air Fryer Elephant Ears

Air Fryer Elephant Ears are truly amazing, either as a treat or a dessert. They are a family favorite in my house and truly couldn’t be any easier to make.

The first thing I want to say, as this has been discussed in my air fryer group Elephant Ears go by lots of different names, and since everyone calls them different things, here is a list I have heard:

  • Fried Dough
  • Elephant Ears
  • Fry Dough
  • Fry Bread
  • Doughboys
  • Scones
  • Flying Saucers
  • Bunelo
  • Pizza Fritte
  • Beaver Tails

And If I missed your name, leave me a comment and I will add it.

Everyone likes different toppings. My personal favorites are powdered sugar and ground cinnamon. But the other popular toppings are melted butter, unsweetened cocoa powder, frosting, caramel syrup, chocolate sauce, and strawberry sauce.

The ingredients for this Air Fryer Elephant Ears Are Simple

How to Make Elephant Ears in Air Fryer

Ingredients:

  • Buttermilk Biscuits, I love the ones with butter
  • Melted Butter
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Ground Cinnamon

Simple Directions:

  1. Start by laying out your biscuits on a large cutting board.
  2. Start by using a rolling pin and flatting the biscuits into large circles.
  3. Place them into your air fryer basket, sprayed with olive oil, so they don’t stick.
  4. I was able to put two in at a time. Do not overcrowd. They greatly expand.
  5. Set your temperature to 350 degrees F, air fryer setting.
  6. Set your time for 5 minutes.
  7. Continue to cook them 2 by 2 until they are all done. Lay them on a plate
  8. When they are all done cooking, spread the melted butter on the dough and generously sprinkle with confectioners sugar and or ground cinnamon.
  9. Plate, serve, and enjoy!

In Hungarian we call them langos! But theses don’t resemble them at all. It should be bread dough rolled or pulled out to an almost see through consistency! They will puff up around the edges and you can then put your topping in the middle! Have never made them in the airfryer but might try .

Hi. The idea is intriguing but does it not taste like biscuits with just butter, sugar and cinnamon on top? I am not not sure that I would like that. But that is just me. How about incorporating the sugar and cinnamon into the actual dough rather then just on top? Then butter them as usual after they bake. And then rolling them out flatter.
