What Is A Pizza Bake?
A pizza bake is a casserole-style dish that combines all the classic pizza flavors—sauce, cheese, meats, and toppings—into one easy baked meal. Instead of using traditional pizza crust, many recipes use shortcuts like biscuit dough, pasta, bread, or crescent rolls to create a soft, hearty base that bakes up golden and cheesy.
Bubble-up pizza bakes are especially popular because the biscuit dough “bubbles up” as it cooks, creating fluffy pockets mixed with melted cheese and sauce in every bite. Think of it as pizza meets comfort-food casserole… and honestly, nobody at the dinner table complains about that combo.
Ingredients Needed

- Biscuit Dough: Refrigerated biscuit dough creates fluffy pizza bake texture.
- Pizza Sauce: Rich pizza sauce adds classic savory Italian flavor.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: Melty mozzarella cheese makes every bite extra cheesy.
- Seasonings (Italian Seasoning, Basil or Oregano): Italian herbs bring bold homemade pizzeria-style flavor.
How To Make Air Fryer Bubble-Up Pizza Bake

Step 1: Cut each biscuit into 4 equal pieces and place the dough pieces into a large mixing bowl.
Step 2: Add the pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, basil, and any extra seasonings or toppings you like. Stir until all of the biscuit pieces are fully coated in sauce.

Step 3: Transfer the mixture into an air fryer-safe baking pan and spread it out evenly. Top with extra cheese and your favorite pizza toppings.
Step 4: Air fry at 350 degrees F using the air fryer setting for 10–15 minutes, or until the biscuit dough is cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 5: Carefully remove the pan from the air fryer and let the pizza bake cool for a few minutes before serving.

Air Fryer Bubble-Up Pizza Bake Recipe Tips
- Use refrigerated homestyle biscuit dough and cut into bite-sized pieces for even cooking
- Lightly pre-air fry biscuit pieces for 3–5 minutes to prevent soggy centers
- Don’t overload with sauce; use just enough to coat the dough pieces
- Choose thick pizza sauce instead of watery marinara to avoid excess moisture
- Layer cheese in two stages for better melt and browning (half before, half near the end)
- Stick with mozzarella as the base cheese for the best stretch and melt
- Keep toppings light so the bake doesn’t turn dense or soggy
- Pre-cook meats like sausage or bacon before adding to the mix
- Avoid raw, watery vegetables unless they’ve been sautéed first
- Spread mixture in a single even layer for proper air circulation
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed
- Cook at 350°F and check early since air fryers vary in heat intensity
- Let it rest 5–10 minutes before serving so it sets and slices better
- Add finishing touches like garlic butter, parmesan, or red pepper flakes after cooking
- Use parchment liners with holes if cleanup or sticking is an issue
Recipe Variations
- Meat Lover’s Version: Add cooked pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and ham for a heavy, savory bake
- Veggie Supreme: Load up with sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, spinach, and olives
- Margherita Style: Use fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil, and a drizzle of olive oil after cooking
- White Pizza Bake: Skip red sauce and use garlic butter, Alfredo sauce, or ricotta instead
- BBQ Chicken Version: Swap pizza sauce for BBQ sauce and mix in shredded cooked chicken, red onion, and cheddar
- Low-Carb Version: Use low-carb biscuit dough or cauliflower-based dough alternative
- Garlic Butter Parmesan Style: Skip sauce, coat biscuit pieces in garlic butter, and top with parmesan and herbs

Storing, Freezing and Reheating Instructions
- Storing: Let the Air Fryer Bubble-Up Pizza Bake cool completely, then store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep well for up to 3–4 days without getting soggy if sealed properly.
- Freezing: Place cooled portions in a freezer-safe container or bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing. Freeze for up to 2 months for best texture and flavor.
- Reheating: Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes until hot and crispy again. You can also microwave it, but the air fryer keeps the edges much better.
Air Fryer Bubble-Up Pizza Bake Recipe Faqs
Can I use homemade biscuit dough instead of canned? Yes, homemade dough works fine, but keep the pieces small so they cook through evenly in the air fryer.
Why is my bubble-up pizza bake soggy? Too much sauce or overcrowding the air fryer basket usually causes sogginess, so keep layers light and cook in a single even layer.
Do I need to pre-cook the biscuit pieces? Pre-cooking for a few minutes helps a lot because it sets the outside early and keeps the center from turning doughy.
What temperature should I cook it at? Most air fryers work best at 350°F for about 8–12 minutes, but always check early since models vary.
Can I make this ahead of time? You can assemble it a few hours ahead and store it in the fridge, then air fry when ready to serve.
What are the best toppings to use? Stick with classic pizza toppings like pepperoni, cooked sausage, mushrooms, peppers, and olives for best results.
Can I reheat leftovers in the air fryer? Yes, reheat at 350°F for 3–5 minutes to bring back the crispy edges and melty cheese.
Can I make it vegetarian? Absolutely, just skip the meat and load up on veggies like peppers, onions, mushrooms, and spinach.
