Yum Yum Sauce is a great and easy Japanese sauce that only needs a few ingredients. It is the perfect dipping sauce for so many recipes.

If you love homemade Japanese sauces this is the perfect one for you to start with, it is the same dipping sauce I recently got at my Hibachi restaurant, and they paired it with a bunch of shrimp. I love this, and it’s easy to make and fabulous.

Whipping up homemade sauces in your kitchen is the perfect way to change our meals. If you have kids, serving ketchup with everything gets boring, and with the kids home more and more, I have been trying to change out stuff. But trust me, you will love this as much as the kids. My husband loves this on grilled chicken and mixes the sauce with his rice.

The recipe for Yum Yum Sauce is simple and quick. All ingredients are readily available at your local grocery store, so it’s a great option if you need to whip up something on short notice or want an easy sauce idea that doesn’t require too much work. This sauce can be used as a dipping sauce with chicken fingers and fries, onion rings, and even a salad dressing!

Oh, so good!

WHAT IS HIBACHI YUM YUM SAUCE?

Yum Yum sauce is made of a mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, vinegar, garlic, sugar, paprika, and some water. This sauce is the favorite at the local Japanese Steakhouse. And you can serve it from anything from steak to salads. And pairs very nicely with a plate of vegetables. You can even use the sauce for a dip. Talk about versatility.

Yum Yum Sauce Has Many Names: Depending on where you go, this sauce has several names, some of them which I have heard of:

  • White Sauce
  • Seafood Sauce
  • Japanese Vegetable Sauce
  • Japanese Hibachi Style Sauce
  • Sakura Sauce

The base is a Japanese Mayonnaise, which you can find in specialty markets or Amazon (affiliate link)

Japanese Mayonnaise is different than American Mayonnaise, but you can switch them out. I used regular old American Mayonnaise in this recipe, and it was terrific.

Japanese Mayonnaise, Kewpie, and is made with only egg yolk and added rice vinegar. Unlike the American version, which is made of whole eggs, we add some sugar and salt.

HOW DO YOU MAKE HOMEMADE YUM YUM SAUCE?

Making it is easy. All you need to do is add all of your ingredients to a small mixing bowl.

The key is really to use a whisk to mix it until the sauce is smooth. Please place it in an airtight container and then put it in the refrigerator after you make it. Yum Yum Sauce is best served cold. I usually make mine the night ahead of time, so it has time to come together.
