What is New York Strip Steak?

The New York Strip Steak is a cut of meat that is from the short loin, behind the ribs. Because the muscle is hardly used in the cow, this piece of meat is very tender. It is a good piece of meat because it is not too expensive and does not have a bone. Generally, they have a lot of marbling throughout the steak, which makes for a great tender dinner.

Some Tips for Air Frying Steaks—

  1. It is really important that you preheat your air fryer. If you do not have a preheat function on your air fryer. All you need to do is set the temperature to 400 degrees F, for 5 minutes. Then add your meat.
  2. I either spray olive oil onto my steaks or rub them with melted butter, both really create a great flavor, while air frying.
  3. Let your steaks get to room temperature, before air frying them, I find that about 30 minutes usually works.
  4. Let your steaks rest after you get them out of the air fryer. This helps all of the juices go into the center.

The best way to really determine if your steak is done is to use a meat thermometer.

Simply insert the meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak. Here is a chart that will help you–

  • Rare: 130 degrees F
  • Medium Rare: 135 degrees F
  • Medium: 145 degrees F
  • Medium Well: 150 degrees F
  • Well Done: 160 degrees F

Some Common Questions Asked About Air Frying Steaks-

How long does it usually take to cook a steak in the air fryer?

The true answer depends on how you like your steak cooked, medium rare will need less time then well done. So I find that 5 minutes on each side gives you about a medium rare, if you wnat it done be done, then add additional time.

Why Do I suggest letting it get to room temperature?

I find that if you let the steak become room temperature, the steak cooks more evenly.
