9 Pro Tips For the Best Air Fryer Ham and Cheese Hot Pockets

  • Roll Out the Dough Evenly: Before assembling your hot pockets, roll the dough out evenly to avoid thick spots that won’t cook through properly.
  • Seal Edges Securely: To prevent the filling from leaking out during cooking, press the edges of the pastry firmly together, then crimp with a fork.
  • Don’t Overfill: While it’s tempting to pack in as much filling as possible, overfilling can cause the hot pockets to burst open during cooking.
  • Use Egg Wash for a Golden Finish: Brushing the tops of your hot pockets with beaten egg gives them a beautiful golden color and helps the pastry crisp up.
  • Cook in Batches: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to allow hot air to circulate freely around each hot pocket. This ensures they cook evenly and become nicely crisp.
  • Let Them Rest Before Serving: Fresh out of the air fryer, the filling will be extremely hot. Let the hot pockets rest for a few minutes after cooking, which allows the filling to set and makes them easier to eat.
  • Adjust Cooking Time as Needed: Depending on your air fryer model and the exact thickness of your hot pockets, cooking times may vary. Keep an eye on them, especially the first time you make them, and adjust the time as needed.
  • Experiment with Fillings: Ham and cheese is a classic combination, but don’t be afraid to experiment with different fillings based on your preferences or what you have on hand.
  • Serve with Dipping Sauces: To elevate your hot pockets, serve them with a side of dipping sauces. Mustard, ranch, marinara, or any sauce that complements your filling can add an extra layer of flavor.
