Copycat La Madeleine Quiche Recipe Tips

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: For the best flavor, use fresh eggs, high-quality cheese (Swiss and Gruyère), and freshly cooked bacon.
  • Pre-Cook the Bacon: Ensure your bacon is cooked crispy before adding it to the quiche.
  • Don’t Overfill the Quiche: When adding the egg mixture to the pie crust, leave a little space at the top.
  • Use a Suitable Pan: Choose an air fryer-safe pan that fits comfortably in your air fryer basket, typically a 7-inch round or 8-inch square pan works well.
  • Avoid Overcooking: Keep an eye on your quiche while cooking. The cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer’s model.
  • Let it Rest: After removing the quiche from the air fryer, let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This helps the filling to set, making it easier to slice.
  • Customize the Filling: While this recipe uses bacon, Swiss, and Gruyère, feel free to get creative! Add sautéed onions, spinach, mushrooms, or ham for added flavor.
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the quiche a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator.
  • Pie Crust Tips: If you’re using a store-bought pie crust, make sure it’s thawed and at room temperature before placing it in the air fryer.
  • Check for Doneness: Since air fryers vary, check the quiche at the 20-minute mark and continue to cook if necessary, checking every few minutes.

Copycat La Madeleine Quiche Lorraine Recipe Faqs

Can I make this quiche without an air fryer? Yes, you can bake this quiche in a conventional oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the center is set and a toothpick comes out clean.

What’s the best crust to use for this quiche? You can use either a homemade pie crust or a store-bought one. Both work well, but if using store-bought, make sure it’s thawed and at room temperature for easier handling.

Can I use a different cheese instead of Swiss and Gruyère? Absolutely! While Swiss and Gruyère offer a classic flavor, you can substitute with cheddar, mozzarella, or even a mix of your favorite cheeses.

Do I need to pre-cook the bacon? Yes, it’s recommended to pre-cook the bacon until crispy. This prevents excess grease in the quiche and adds a delicious, crispy texture.

How do I know when my quiche is fully cooked? Check your quiche after 20 minutes by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, your quiche is done. The top should also be set and lightly golden.

Can I make this quiche ahead of time? Yes! You can prepare the quiche in advance and refrigerate it overnight. Reheat slices in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Can I freeze leftover quiche? Yes, you can freeze quiche for up to 2 months. Let it cool completely, wrap it in plastic wrap, then in aluminum foil, and place it in an airtight freezer bag. Reheat from frozen in the air fryer or oven.

Can I add extra vegetables to this quiche? Yes! Spinach, onions, and mushrooms are great additions. However, make sure to sauté or cook any watery vegetables beforehand to prevent excess moisture in the quiche.

How do I prevent the crust from getting soggy? To avoid a soggy crust, pre-bake (or “blind bake”) the crust for a few minutes before adding the filling, especially if it’s very thick.

Notes

Notes

  1. Leaving it in the air fryer too long, you want a quiche that bounces just a little, when you go and cut, it, otherwise if it’s firm, it just means that it has been overbaked, you want a light and fluffy quiche.  So, cook until the edges are just set, just a little brown on the edges.
  2. Find an air fryer-safe pan that is deep enough to hold your crust and your filling but leaving a couple of inches of space between the filling and the edge of the pan. Otherwise, the ingredients might fly around the air fryer.
  3. Leftovers make for unique add-ins to the quiche, so check your refrigerator before you “complete making yours,” there is always something good to add in from the fridge. Anything in your refrigerator is a fair game from cheese, meats, seafood, poultry, or vegetables.
  4. All filling ingredients should be cooked, not raw.
  5. Frozen pie shells make excellent dough for the quiche. Just bake your shell first. Otherwise, you will end up with a soggy crust.
  6. Quiche continues to cook after you remove it from the oven, so it will firm up quickly after it’s removed from the heat source (oven or air fryer)
  7.  If your quiche is overcooked, it will start to curdle.
