Instant Pot Hot Cocoa Bombs

My son came to me with a baking project he saw on Tik Tok, a homemade Hot Cocoa Bomb. The idea hit me; I could totally make them, so my project for today– Hot Cocoa Bombs!

If you have not heard of Hot Chocolate Bombs, they are all the rage on Tik Tok, where your tweens or teens spend hours. I didn’t realize until my son pointed it out about two hours later because I could have purchased a set-off of the Costco Website. Ugh, kids.

But it was a fun baking project. And it’s rainy in Philadelphia, and there is always time for a great cup of hot chocolate.

What is A Hot Chocolate Bomb?

That was the first question I asked my son when he told me he wanted some.

A hot chocolate bomb is a ball of chocolate that you make, and then you place it into a mug and pour hot milk over it. The chocolate will melt, and depending on what you put inside the hot chocolate bomb, think mini marshmallows. It is a cute and fun idea.

Ingredients Needed For Hot Cocoa Bombs

While there are many variations of hot cocoa bombs on the market, they typically consist of milk chocolate, hot cocoa mix, marshmallows, and sprinkles. To make your own at home, you will need a mold to shape the bomb and a melting tool to melt the chocolate. For an extra special touch, try adding flavored syrups or crushed peppermint candies to the center before sealing it shut. And don’t forget the most important ingredient – a mug of warm milk to pour over your hot cocoa bomb and watch it burst into a deliciously cozy drink! Just don’t wait too long before adding the milk – these bombs dissolve quickly once they hit the warmth of your beverage!

How to Make Hot Chocolate Bombs

Melt your chocolate chips and oil in a medium-sized bowl in the microwave for 30-second intervals until completely melted.

How to Make Hot Chocolate Bombs

Add your chocolate to the hot cocoa bomb mold. Make sure every part of the circle is covered in chocolate. Try to make the chocolate coating thick as it could break the thinner layer of chocolate. Freeze your mold and chocolate.

Once the chocolate has hardened, remove it from the mold. Fill one-half of the mold with your marshmallows and hot chocolate powder.

Warm a small plate in the microwave for 30 seconds. Take the other half of the bomb and twist your hand from left to right. The chocolate will start to melt on the edges.

How to Make Hot Chocolate Bombs

Place the two rounds together. The round melted on the edge will act as a sealant and melt the chocolate together to form a round ball (bomb) shape.

Place in your favorite mug, pour hot milk over it, watch the magic happen, and enjoy!
