Air Fryer Blueberry French Toast Casserole Recipe Tips

  • Use day-old bread: Slightly stale bread soaks up the custard without falling apart.
  • Soak overnight: Cover and refrigerate overnight for maximum flavor and custardy texture.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan: Leave a little space in your air fryer basket for even cooking.
  • Check doneness: Cook until golden brown on top and set in the middle—every air fryer is different.
  • Fresh vs. frozen blueberries: Fresh is best for texture, but frozen works—just don’t thaw completely to avoid sogginess.
  • Optional toppings: Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with maple syrup, or add a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.

Storing Instructions

  • Refrigerator: Let the casserole cool completely, then cover tightly with plastic wrap or an airtight container. It will keep for 3-4 days.
  • Freezer: Wrap individual slices or the entire casserole tightly in plastic wrap and foil, or store in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Reheating: Air fryer or oven works best to keep the top slightly crisp-reheat at 350°F for 5–10 minutes until warmed through. Microwaving is quicker but may make the bread a little softer.

Air Fryer Blueberry French Toast Casserole Recipe Faqs

Can I use fresh or frozen blueberries? Both work! Fresh blueberries give the best texture, while frozen can be used straight from the freezer—just don’t thaw completely to avoid sogginess.

Can I make this ahead of time? Yes! Assemble the casserole, cover, and refrigerate overnight. This allows the bread to soak up the custard for a richer, fluffier texture.

What type of bread works best? Day-old bread like brioche, challah, or French bread holds up well and soaks the custard without falling apart.

Can I freeze leftovers? Absolutely. Wrap slices or the whole casserole tightly and freeze up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer or oven for best results.

How do I know when it’s done? The top should be golden brown and the center set. A knife inserted in the middle should come out mostly clean.

Can I make it dairy-free? Yes! Use plant-based milk and cream cheese alternatives. The texture may be slightly different but still delicious.
