How To Make Air Fryer Crispy Tex-Mex Roasted Chickpeas
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
Start by draining the chickpeas, the more liquid you can drain, the better the chickpeas will come out. If you want them crunchy, remove most of the liquid, via your strainer, and then place them on a kitchen towel, to fully dry them.
Once your chickpeas are drained add the spices and olive oil.
Then mix well, combining all of the spices and olive oil. Check to make sure all of the olive oil have olive oil on them, this will help them crisp up.
Then spread them out onto the air fryer baking pan, or in the bottom of your basket.
Then slip your baking pan into your air fryer. I just received this great air fryer from Simple Living, It works like a charm and it’s very easy to use. Air Fryer chickpeas after 5 minutes at 390 degrees F, just do them for another 7-9 minutes, just until they get crispy.
Air Fryer Crispy Tex-Mex Roasted Chickpeas Recipe Tips
- Prepping Chickpeas: Rinse and drain canned chickpeas thoroughly, then pat them dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is crucial for achieving a crispy texture.
- Seasoning: For a Tex-Mex flavor, use a blend of chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Adjust the seasoning to taste, and consider adding a bit of lime zest for an extra tang.
- Coating: Toss chickpeas with olive oil and your seasoning mix before air frying. Ensure the chickpeas are evenly coated for consistent flavor and crispiness.
- Avoid Overcrowding: Cook chickpeas in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and prevent the chickpeas from becoming crispy.
- Checking Doneness: Chickpeas should be golden brown and crunchy. If they’re not crispy enough, continue cooking for a few more minutes, but be careful not to burn them.
- Cooling: Allow the roasted chickpeas to cool completely before serving. This helps them firm up and become even crispier.
- Storage: Store leftover chickpeas in an airtight container at room temperature. They can stay crispy for up to a week. Avoid refrigerating as it can make them soggy.
- Re-crisping: If the chickpeas lose their crunch, reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore their crispiness.
- Variations: Feel free to experiment with different Tex-Mex spices or add ingredients like dried cilantro or a sprinkle of cheese powder for added flavor. Adjust the seasoning mix to match your taste preferences.
