Here is a confession, before today, I have never purchased Spam, nor have I ever eaten in. There, I said it, now I move on.
(That was important for me to get off my chest, in case you were thinking, I blog and sit at my desk eating Spam)
So, how did this get started, why did I try this recipe? Well, I have a LARGE (VERY LARGE) Air Frying group that I am proud to be an admin for. And, so the question received so many negative responses, the person asking the question, never got an answer, because I took it down. And, I blotted in down on my list of what I was going to air fry next.
So, today was the day.
What do I know about Spam, not much, my mother is a proud Italian woman, who when I told her I was cooking Spam today, looked at me and said what? I said it’s canned meat, she said, can’t you get regular meat? I’m thinking that the next time she goes to a grocery store she is going to be bringing me some meat. LOL
Now, this is what I gathered from Wikipedia about Spam, because I had to answer the same questions from my kids, so I thought I would have to be armed a little more with knowledge. Spam started out during World War II. Not surprisingly because it’s in a metal can. And, whenever I see metal cans with food, my mind automatically goes there. Here is a real mind blower, in 2012 8,000,000,000 cans have been sold. That’s BILLIONTH cans, so somebody is buying this.
The ingredients in Spam are meat products, but contains gelatin. Which, probably is the stuff that made my hands all sticky, during making this.
My son and I watched a program last year on the food channel, where you had to make your best Spam product. Today, I’m making Spam French Fries. My kids tried them, and they didn’t hate them.
Here are some other recipes, that will get you started with your air fryer:
The package that I purchased.
Taken out of the package. This is what it looks like (in case you were wondering)
I cut into slices, then quartered those pieces until I got those
Dipped in breadcrumbs. (Italian seasoned ones, of course)
