Ninja Speedi Spaghetti and Meatballs is the one-pot weeknight miracle that turns five pantry staples into dinner in just 27 minutes. Saucy spaghetti simmers below while juicy meatballs crisp on the tray above — no boiling, no extra pans, no stress.

Ninja Speedi Spaghetti and Meatballs is the one-pot weeknight dinner I make when I have 27 minutes and a hungry family. Everything cooks together in a single appliance — saucy spaghetti at the bottom of the pot, juicy meatballs steaming on the Crisper Tray — and you walk away with a real Italian-American dinner without boiling a single pot of water.
If you already love your Ninja Speedi for one-pot meals, this is the recipe that will earn the appliance permanent counter space.
Why You’ll Love This Ninja Speedi Spaghetti and Meatballs
- One pot, one appliance, one dinner. No boiling pasta separately, no extra skillet for the meatballs.
- 27 minutes start to finish. 5 minutes of prep, 22 minutes of mostly hands-off cooking.
- Works with frozen or fresh meatballs. Use whatever is in your freezer — homemade, store-bought, beef, turkey, or plant-based.
- Kid-approved every time. Picky-eater tested, with 4.77 stars from readers who have made it.
- Easy to scale. Feeds 6 comfortably, and the leftovers reheat beautifully for lunchboxes.
What Is the Ninja Speedi?
The Ninja Speedi (model SF301) is a countertop appliance that combines a rapid cooker, air fryer, and steamer in a single 6-quart vessel. Its signature feature is SteamCrisp mode, which generates steam at the bottom of the pot while air-frying whatever sits on the Crisper Tray above. That two-zone cooking is what makes this one-pot spaghetti and meatballs work: the pasta cooks in the sauce below while the meatballs heat and crisp above.
If you have a Ninja Foodi or a Ninja Combi, you can adapt this recipe — see the Variations section below.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Exact amounts are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

For the spaghetti and sauce:
- Spaghetti: broken in half, regular, whole-wheat, or gluten-free
- Pasta sauce: your favorite marinara or tomato basil jar
- Water: cold tap water to cook the pasta
- Italian seasoning: adds an extra layer of herb flavor
- Garlic powder: brings savory depth to the sauce
- Kosher salt: balances and brightens the tomato sauce
- Crushed red pepper flakes: optional pinch for a little heat
For the meatballs:
- Meatballs: fully-cooked, fresh or frozen, any protein works
For serving:
- Grated Parmesan cheese: salty, nutty finish on every bite
- Fresh parsley: chopped, for color and bright flavor
- Extra red pepper flakes: optional, for those who like heat
How to Make Ninja Speedi Spaghetti and Meatballs

Step 1 — Layer the sauce and pasta
Pour the water, pasta sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and a pinch of red pepper flakes into the bottom of the Ninja Speedi pot. Stir well to combine. Break the spaghetti strands in half and scatter them in a crisscross pattern across the sauce, pressing gently so they are fully submerged. The pasta must be covered in liquid — if it’s not, add a splash more water.

Step 2 — Add the meatballs on the Crisper Tray
Expand the legs of the Crisper Tray and lower it into the pot so it sits above the pasta. Arrange the meatballs in a single layer on the tray — they can touch but should not stack. Close the lid and slide the switch to SteamCrisp.
Step 3 — Cook on Speedi Meals
Select the Speedi Meals function, set the temperature to 370°F, and the time to 12 minutes. Press START. The Speedi will steam-crisp the meatballs above while the spaghetti cooks in the sauce below.
Step 4 — Stir and finish
When the cycle ends, carefully lift out the Crisper Tray (the meatballs are hot). Set the tray aside, stir the spaghetti and sauce to redistribute, then nestle the meatballs down into the pasta. Switch to STEAM mode for an additional 10 minutes to finish the pasta to al dente and warm the meatballs through to the center.
Step 5 — Serve
Stir one more time, taste for salt, and serve in bowls. Top with grated Parmesan, fresh parsley, and a little extra pepper flakes if you like heat. Garlic bread on the side is non-negotiable in my house.

Pro Tips for the Best One-Pot Spaghetti
- Layer in the right order. Sauce + water on the bottom, pasta crisscrossed on top, meatballs on the tray above. Sauce on the bottom prevents the pasta from scorching.
- Submerge the pasta. Any spaghetti sticking up out of the liquid will dry out. Press it down before closing the lid.
- Don’t skip the second steam cycle. The 10-minute STEAM finish is what brings the pasta to true al dente and lets the sauce thicken.
- Frozen meatballs need no thawing. Add them straight from the freezer — they cook in the same 12 minutes.
- Use a thick sauce. Watery sauces produce watery pasta. A traditional marinara or a tomato-basil works best.
- Stir before serving. The sauce hides under the pasta during cooking; a good stir at the end brings it back together.
Variations and Substitutions
- Make it baked-ziti style. Swap the spaghetti for penne or ziti — same cook time.
- Sneak in vegetables. Add chopped mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach to the bottom layer before cooking. One reader does this with mushrooms, peppers, garlic, chili, onion, and bacon on the Crisper Tray for the first cycle, then mixes everything together — and rates the result 5 stars.
- Use a meat sauce. Substitute the jarred sauce for an arrabbiata, vodka sauce, or your favorite homemade Sunday gravy.
- Make it dairy-free. Skip the Parmesan or use a dairy-free Parmesan alternative.
- Make it gluten-free. Use gluten-free spaghetti and gluten-free meatballs. Check the pasta’s package time — some gluten-free brands need slightly less steaming.
- Spicier version. Add ½ teaspoon Calabrian chili paste or a sliced fresh chili to the sauce.
How to Store and Reheat Leftovers
- Microwave: 90 seconds on medium power, stir, then 30–60 more seconds. Cover with a damp paper towel to keep the pasta moist.
- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Freezer: Freeze in single-serve containers for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
- Reheat on the stovetop: Warm gently in a saucepan over low heat with a splash of water or broth to loosen the sauce.
- Reheat in the Speedi: Use STEAM mode for 3–4 minutes — it brings the pasta right back to life without drying out.

Ninja Speedi Spaghetti and Meatballs FAQs
How long does spaghetti and meatballs take in the Ninja Speedi? Total time is 27 minutes: 5 minutes of prep, 12 minutes on Speedi Meals at 370°F, and a final 10-minute STEAM cycle to finish the pasta.
Can I use frozen meatballs? Yes. Frozen meatballs work perfectly — add them straight from the freezer to the Crisper Tray and cook for the full 12 minutes. No thawing needed.
Why is my pasta still hard when the timer goes off? The Speedi Meals cycle alone is not enough to fully cook spaghetti. You need the second STEAM cycle (10 minutes after stirring in the meatballs) to bring the pasta to al dente. If pasta is still firm after that, run another 2–3 minutes on STEAM.
Can I double this recipe? Not in a single Speedi. The 6-quart pot is at capacity with 8 ounces of pasta and 12 meatballs. Doubling means doing two batches back-to-back.
Do I need to brown the meatballs first? No. The SteamCrisp function at 370°F gives the meatballs color on the outside while keeping them juicy inside — no pre-browning required.
Can I use uncooked meatballs? Yes, but use larger meatballs (about 1.5 inches) and increase the Speedi Meals time to 15 minutes at 370°F. Verify internal temperature reaches 160°F for beef/pork or 165°F for poultry.
What pasta shapes can I substitute for spaghetti? Penne, ziti, rigatoni, and rotini all work without changing the time. Avoid angel hair (it overcooks) and long shapes like linguine that don’t fit easily.
Will gluten-free spaghetti work? Yes. Reduce the second STEAM cycle to 6–7 minutes — gluten-free pasta cooks faster and turns mushy if over-steamed.
Can I make this without the Crisper Tray? You can, but the meatballs will sit directly in the sauce and won’t crisp. They’ll still be delicious — just softer. Use STEAM mode only, for 15 minutes total, stirring once.
Why does the recipe call for water if I’m using sauce? The pasta absorbs liquid as it cooks. Sauce alone is too thick to cook spaghetti — the water thins it just enough to hydrate the pasta, and the sauce thickens back up during the final steam.

Used this method to do spaghetti bolognaise and it was so easy and amazing. Never thought of doing it that way.
I put the spaghetti, water, tomato puree and seasoning in the bottom and chopped mushrooms, peppers, garlic, chilli, onion and bacon on the crisper tray for 10 mins speedi meals. Then put it all in the bottom and steamed for 10 mins. Amazing!
