This Halloween Boo-falo Wing Dip is a spooky buffalo chicken dip shaped like a jack-o’-lantern. Shredded chicken, cream cheese, orange cheddar and Buffalo sauce bake together in 15 minutes. Then a celery stem and a tortilla-chip face turn it into a pumpkin. It’s the easiest Halloween party appetizer on the table, and it’s gone in minutes.

It has all the flavor of classic buffalo chicken wing dip without the wings. You get creamy, cheesy and a little spicy, with enough room to keep the heat mild for kids.

Why You’ll Love This Boofalo Chicken Dip
- 20 minutes total: 5 minutes to mix, 15 minutes to bake.
- 6 ingredients: Chicken, Buffalo sauce, cream cheese, cheddar, celery and tortilla chips.
- Festive without the fuss: The orange cheddar does the pumpkin color for you. The face takes 2 minutes.
- Make-ahead friendly: Mix it the day before and bake it when guests arrive.
- Adjustable heat: Use mild Buffalo sauce for kids or add hot sauce for the adults.
Chicken Wing Dip Ingredients

- Cooked chicken: Rotisserie chicken is the fastest option. You can also make my Air Fryer Shredded Chicken ahead of time.
- Buffalo sauce: Frank’s RedHot Wings sauce or any bottled Buffalo sauce works. Start with 1/2 cup and add more to taste.
- Cream cheese: Use full-fat, softened to room temperature so it mixes smoothly.
- Orange cheddar cheese: Shred it yourself from a block for the smoothest melt. Save some for the top so the dip looks like a pumpkin.
- Celery: One short rib makes the pumpkin stem. Cut more into sticks for dipping.
- Dark tortilla chips: Blue corn or black bean chips stand out against the orange cheese for the jack-o’-lantern face.

How to Make Halloween Buffalo Chicken Dip

Step 1: Preheat. Heat the oven to 400°F.
Step 2: Mix the dip. In a large bowl, stir together the shredded chicken, Buffalo sauce, softened cream cheese and most of the cheddar until fully combined.

Step 3: Shape the pumpkin. Spread the mixture into a round or oval baking dish and smooth the top. Sprinkle the reserved cheddar evenly over it.
Step 4: Bake. Bake for about 15 minutes, until hot and bubbling around the edges.
Step 5: Rest. Let the dip cool for 5 minutes so the cheese sets enough to hold the decorations.
Step 6: Decorate. Press a short piece of celery into the top edge as the pumpkin stem. Break the tortilla chips into triangles for eyes and a nose, and a jagged strip for the mouth. Press them gently into the cheese.
Step 7: Serve. Serve warm with extra chips, celery and carrot sticks.

Tips for the Best Spooky Buffalo Chicken Dip
- Soften the cream cheese first. Cold cream cheese leaves lumps. Microwave it for 15 seconds if you forgot to set it out.
- Decorate after baking. Chips added before baking will burn, and celery will wilt.
- Use a shallow dish. A wide, round dish gives more surface for the face and bakes more evenly.
- Keep it warm. For long parties, hold the dip in a 200°F oven or move it to a small slow cooker on warm.
- Make it spookier: Add sliced black olives for eyes, or cut the chips into bat shapes.
Variations
- Ranch or blue cheese: Stir in 1/4 cup ranch or crumbled blue cheese for classic wing-night flavor.
- Extra creamy: Swap half the cheddar for Monterey Jack or mozzarella.
- Copycat restaurant style: For a no-decorations version, try my Hooters Buffalo Chicken Dip.
- Air fryer: Use a small oven-safe dish that fits your basket. Air fry at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes, until bubbling.

What to Serve With Boo-falo Dip
Set it out with tortilla chips, celery and carrot sticks, crackers or pita chips. For a full Halloween spread, add my Air Fryer Mummy Pizza and a batch of Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wontons for guests who want their Buffalo chicken in a crunchy wrapper.
Storing, Freezing and Reheating
- Fridge: Remove the chips and celery, then store the dip in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Make ahead: Mix the dip, spread it in the baking dish, cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add 5 minutes to the bake time.
- Freeze: Freeze undecorated leftovers for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge.
- Reheat: Bake at 350°F for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring halfway, or microwave single portions in 30-second bursts.
